Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his admiration for the immense enthusiasm displayed by millions of devotees who participated in the Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj. He emphasized that researchers in the spiritual field would study this extraordinary phenomenon and recognize how a nation deeply rooted in its cultural heritage is surging ahead with renewed vigor. He further asserted his belief that the country has emerged stronger after witnessing the grand congregation at the Maha Kumbh.
“I see this as the dawn of a new era that will script the future of India,” Modi remarked in a blog post following the conclusion of the Maha Kumbh. He urged citizens to take inspiration from this grand assembly and channel similar unity towards the development of the nation.
Drawing parallels, he noted that just as the Maha Kumbh brought together people from different walks of life—rich and poor, young and old, urban and rural, from across India and beyond, irrespective of caste or ideology—the same spirit of unity should drive the country forward.
“This remarkable spectacle of ‘One India, Great India’ has instilled immense self-confidence among millions of citizens. Now, it is time for us to unite for a greater cause—the Maha Yajna of a developed India,” he wrote.
Reflecting on the significance of the event, Modi stated that the Maha Kumbh allowed people from India and across the world to witness the country’s enormous potential and cultural grandeur. He stressed the importance of carrying forward this collective confidence and spirit of unity to achieve the nation’s goal of development.
“This is the very strength of India that our saints of the Bhakti movement infused into every corner of the country. From Swami Vivekananda to Sri Aurobindo, all awakened us to this power. Mahatma Gandhi experienced this strength during the freedom movement. If we had recognized and harnessed this energy post-independence, it could have transformed our nation in extraordinary ways. Unfortunately, we did not fully utilize it at the time. However, I now feel immense satisfaction that the same powerful spirit of unity is reawakening for the mission of a developed India,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister noted that his belief in the bright future of India had strengthened manifold over the past 45 days. “The way 140 crore Indians have turned the Maha Kumbh into a global identity is simply extraordinary,” he said, recalling his dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati in Prayagraj on February 5.
“When the consciousness of a nation is awakened when it breaks free from the psychological shackles of centuries-old subjugation and embraces its renewed identity, then such grand spectacles unfold—like the Maha Kumbh of unity that we witnessed in Prayagraj since January 13.”
He highlighted that the Maha Kumbh had evolved into a subject of study for experts in modern-day management, event planning, and policy formulation. “No other event in the world matches the scale of this congregation. The entire world is astonished by how millions of people converged at the Triveni Sangam without formal invitations or prior communication about when to arrive. They simply set out on their sacred journey, drawn by devotion, and were blessed with the opportunity to take the holy dip,” he observed.
According to the Uttar Pradesh government, a staggering 660 million visitors had taken a dip at the Sangam by Wednesday. To accommodate the influx of pilgrims, special travel arrangements, including additional flights, trains, and buses, were put in place to ensure seamless access to Prayagraj.
Modi also recalled his remarks on January 22, 2024, during the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, where he spoke about the deep connection between devotion and patriotism. He asserted that the Maha Kumbh was a true reflection of this sentiment, as it united 140 crore citizens through a shared spiritual experience.
“The heartwarming sight of men, women, and children from all corners of the nation reaffirmed my belief that India’s youth are the torchbearers of our traditions and values. Their active participation in the Maha Kumbh sends a powerful message that they are committed to preserving and carrying forward our cultural legacy with determination and devotion,” he said.
He further underlined the unifying impact of the Maha Kumbh and noted that the record-breaking number of visitors itoPrayagraj was a testament to its global significance. He expressed appreciation for the devotees who carried sacred water from the Triveni Sangam back home for those who could not attend, calling it an unprecedented gesture that would leave a lasting impact on generations to come.
As a Member of Parliament from Varanasi, Modi commended the Uttar Pradesh government and administration for their meticulous planning and execution of the event. “The sheer number of devotees who arrived in Prayagraj far exceeded expectations. Previous Kumbh experiences were used as a benchmark, but this time, nearly twice the population of the United States participated in the Maha Kumbh and took the sacred dip,” he stated.
He expressed immense pride in the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and lauded the collective efforts of the government, administration, and the people in making the event a success. “In this Maha Kumbh, there were no rulers or administrators—only devoted servants working for the people. Sanitation workers, police personnel, boatmen, drivers, and food vendors—all performed their duties with unparalleled dedication. Special gratitude goes to the residents of Prayagraj, who, despite the challenges, welcomed and served the devotees with utmost sincerity over these 45 days.”
Concluding his note, Modi extended his heartfelt appreciation to the people of Prayagraj and Uttar Pradesh, recognizing their indispensable role in the successful execution of this historic event. “Their efforts have not only strengthened the spiritual and cultural fabric of our nation but have also laid a foundation for many centuries to come.”
