Man Killed Over Suspicion of Illicit Relationship in Prayagraj; Accused Friend Arrested Within Hours

A tragic incident unfolded in the Atala Imli Tala locality under Khuldabad police station area in Prayagraj on Saturday morning, where a 34-year-old man was brutally murdered by his close friend over suspicion of an illicit relationship.

The shocking crime sparked panic in the neighbourhood and led to an immediate police response.

According to police officials, the accused, Mohammad Ayaz, allegedly doubted the character of his friend Mohammad Seraj, and believing he was involved in an inappropriate relationship, he decided to commit the crime.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Nagar Zone, Manish Shandilya, confirmed that the murder stemmed from Ayaz’s suspicion and personal jealousy.

Incident Details

Mohammad Seraj, originally from Chhoti Bajaria Kajiyana locality under Bindki police station limits in Fatehpur, had been living in a rented house in Attala, Khuldaba,d for the past 15 years with his wife Ruby, two sons Ayaan and Adnan, and daughter Shaina.

He earned his livelihood by driving a four-wheeler and also by selling scrap materials.

Seraj shared a close friendship with Ayaz, who lived nearby, and the two often visited each other’s homes. On Saturd,ay around 6:15 AM, Seraj went to Ayaz’s house.

A heated argument broke out between them, escalating rapidly. In a fit of rage, Ayaz attacked Seraj with a knife, delivering multiple blows.

Seraj suffered at least four deep stab wounds, including severe injuries to his neck and lower back. He collapsed on the ground, writhing in pain.

Hearing screams, neighbours and Seraj’s family rushed to the scene and immediately informed the police.

Khuldabad police, along with a forensic team and ACP Kotwali Ravi Gupta, reached the spot.

Seraj was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The police subsequently sent the body for a post-mortem, which later confirmed deep knife wounds as the cause of death.

Swift Arrest and Investigation

Following the attack, Ayaz fled the scene but was arrested within a short period by the police.

Authorities also recovered forensic evidence from the crime scene. A murder case was registered based on a complaint filed by Seraj’s brother, Meraj.

The victim’s father, Mir Baks,h and his two brothers, Meraj and Shanu, rushed to Prayagraj upon receiving the devastating news.

Police officials revealed that Ayaz had previously worked for a private company in Mumbai but had been staying at home for some time after quitting his job.

The police stated that the crime was a result of personal suspicion and an emotional outburst.

“The accused doubted Seraj’s character and in that dispute, he committed the murder,” the DCP said. Investigations are ongoing to verify the motive and examine any additional angles.

The incident has left the community shocked, highlighting once again how mistrust and emotional instability can erupt into extreme violence.
