Man kills grandmother, aunt to death after argument in Moradabad
In a shocking incident that unfolded in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, a 31-year-old man allegedly murdered his grandmother and aunt using a hammer following a dispute over money. The accused, identified as Sahil Sharma, also known as Sonu, later surrendered himself to the Civil Lines police, who promptly arrested him for the heinous crime.
According to the police, Sahil Sharma had been raised by his grandmother, Saroj Sharma, aged 90, and his unmarried aunt, Vandana Sharma, who was 60 years old. The two women had taken care of him since childhood after the tragic demise of his parents nearly two decades ago. Despite their nurturing efforts, the relationship between Sahil and his caretakers had reportedly become strained recently due to financial disagreements.
Investigators revealed that Sahil had been persistently demanding money from the elderly women to purchase an auto-rickshaw. However, both his grandmother and aunt had repeatedly refused to give him the amount, citing concerns over his mental instability. This prolonged tension ultimately escalated into a gruesome act of violence.
As per the police findings, the dispute between Sahil and the women intensified on Thursday night. Neighbors later confirmed hearing loud arguments and shouting from the house, indicating a heated confrontation. In the early hours of Friday morning, while Vandana was asleep, Sahil allegedly picked up a hammer and brutally attacked her, striking her multiple times on the head. The assault proved fatal. Upon hearing the commotion, Saroj Sharma rushed to intervene, but Sahil turned on her as well before she could help her daughter. He used the same hammer to strike his grandmother repeatedly, ensuring that both women succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
After committing the crime, Sahil locked the house and fled to Bareilly. Once there, he confided in his cousin’s sister and her husband, revealing the horrifying details of the double murder. Shocked by his confession, they persuaded him to turn himself in to the authorities. Convincing him that surrendering was the best course of action, they accompanied him back to Moradabad later that evening and took him to the police station, where he admitted to his actions.
Manish Saxena, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Civil Lines police station, expressed astonishment at Sahil’s confession. “It was shocking to hear him confess to the brutal murders of the very women who had cared for him since he was a child,” said Saxena. “Based on the neighbors’ testimonies, we confirmed that a loud altercation had taken place on Thursday night. Following this, he carried out the attack early Friday morning.”
The police immediately took Sahil into custody and transported him to the crime scene. Upon reaching the house, they discovered the bodies of Saroj and Vandana Sharma lying lifeless. Officers also recovered the murder weapon—a hammer drenched in blood—confirming that it had been used in the fatal assaults.
The case has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving neighbors and relatives deeply disturbed. Residents of the Adarsh Nagar area are struggling to come to terms with the gruesome crime committed by a man against his family members. Investigations are ongoing, and the police are working to gather additional evidence to ensure that justice is served.
