PRAYAGRAJ: In the long-running Krishna Janmabhoomi–Shahi Eidgah title dispute of Mathura, the Allahabad High Court has scheduled the next hearing for December 12, 2025.

The direction came from Justice Avnish Saxena, who presided over the matter on Friday.

During the proceedings, the court examined case records and granted a final opportunity to all remaining parties to file their written statements in cases where such submissions had not yet been made.

The judge made it clear that no further adjournments would be permitted for this purpose, emphasizing the need to move the proceedings forward efficiently.

On October 16, 2025, the court observed that the case files were voluminous and therefore advised all concerned parties to file objections in pending applications so that those applications could be disposed of without delay.

The court had also directed the registry to reorganize and number the files strictly in accordance with procedural rules to streamline the hearing process.

The dispute involves 18 civil suits filed by the Hindu side, seeking possession of the land, removal of the Shahi Eidgah structure, restoration of the alleged original temple, and a permanent injunction.

Earlier, on August 1, 2024, the High Court had rejected objections raised by the Muslim side questioning the maintainability of suits filed by Hindu worshippers.

In its ruling, the court held that all suits by the Hindu plaintiffs were maintainable, further clarifying that the litigation was not barred by the Limitation Act, the Waqf Act, or the Places of Worship Act, 1991, which protects the religious character of places of worship as they existed on August 15, 1947.

The dispute centers around the Shahi Eidgah mosque, said to have been constructed during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

The Hindu side contends that the mosque stands on the site believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna, claiming that a temple was demolished at the location historically known as the Krishna Janmabhoomi.

As the legal battle continues, the upcoming hearing is expected to be significant, with formal submissions nearing completion and the court pushing toward substantive arguments.
