Mother and Four Children Burned to Death as Parked Car Bursts Into Flames After Being Hit From Behind in Barabanki
In a devastating tragedy that has left an entire region shaken, a 53-year-old woman and her four young children—all under the age of 14—were killed on Wednesday afternoon when their parked car was struck from behind by another vehicle on a roadside in Barabanki district.
The violent impact triggered a massive fire that engulfed both cars within moments, leaving no chance of survival for the family trapped inside.
According to police, the victims were travelling from Varanasi to Lucknow and had briefly halted along the roadside.
Their driver had stepped out to get refreshments, leaving the mother and children seated inside the vehicle.
It was during this brief window that a speeding car approached from behind and rammed directly into the stationary vehicle, resulting in an explosion-like impact.
Both Vehicles Reduced to Ashes Within Minutes
The collision was so severe that flames erupted immediately. Police said the family’s car was equipped with a CNG kit, which may have intensified the blaze, causing the fire to spread rapidly and making escape impossible.
Meanwhile, the five occupants of the second vehicle sustained injuries but survived. They were rushed to the hospital, where doctors described their condition as stable.
Family Declared Dead on Arrival
By the time police arrived and managed to pull the victims from the burning wreckage, the mother and her four children had already succumbed to their injuries and the extreme heat.
They were declared dead at the hospital.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the report is awaited. All five victims hailed from Varanasi, police confirmed.
“They Never Had a Chance”
Krishna Kant Singh, Station House Officer of Subeha police station, said:
“The victims had parked their vehicle on the roadside.
Their driver had stepped away for a while. In that brief moment, another car crashed into them from behind.
The deaths occurred due to injuries sustained during the collision and the fire that followed.”
No FIR had been registered at the time of reporting, though police say further legal action will follow once the preliminary investigation is complete.
This heart-wrenching accident underscores the deadly consequences of high-speed driving and the catastrophic risks associated with rear-end collisions involving CNG-fitted vehicles.
A routine family journey turned into an unimaginable tragedy—one from which there were no survivors.
