Mother Sells Five-Month-Old Son for ₹95,000; Police Rescue Infant, Arrest Mother and Buyer
Manjhanpur ( District, Kaushambi, UP):
In a shocking case of human trafficking, a woman from Kharauna village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district allegedly sold her five-month-old infant son for ₹95,000.
Acting on a complaint by the child’s father and following direct intervention by the district police chief, the police rescued the baby unharmed.
They arrested both the mother and the woman who purchased the child.
The case pertains to the West Sharira police station area.
After initial inaction at the outpost level, the matter reached Rajesh Kumar, who ordered the immediate registration of a case under human trafficking laws. Subsequently, swift police action led to the recovery of the child and the arrest of the accused.
Father Raises Alarm, Police Step In
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, Brijesh Kumar, he had been living in Mirapatti, Prayagraj, with his wife, Mamta Devi, and their infant son, Abhiman Gautam, working as a daily-wage laborer.
On December 28, 2025, after returning home from work, he found both his wife and child missing.
While his wife returned a short while later, she did not bring the baby with her.
When questioned about the child’s whereabouts, she allegedly kept evading answers.
Sensing trouble, she later went to a relative’s house in Manjhanpur’s Tewa area.
Alarmed by her behavior, the father suspected that the child had been trafficked and approached the police.
He alleged that despite initially approaching the Tewa police outpost, no action was taken. Following this lapse, the outpost in charge was suspended for negligence.
Buyer Identified as Hospital Nurse
On the orders of the Superintendent of Police, Paschim Sharira police registered the case on Wednesday and launched a focused operation.
Police arrested the accused mother along with the buyer, identified as Anita Shukla, a nurse working at Dufferin Hospital in Prayagraj, and a resident of Jayrampur Sangam Kunj Colony under the Dhoomanganj police station limits.
Police said the child was being prepared to be sold to a childless couple. The infant recovered safely and is in good health.
“Sold for Money, Not Out of Compulsion”: SP
SP Rajesh Kumar said the mother showed no emotional attachment to the child and sold him purely for monetary gain.
The infant has recovered safely. Both the mother and the woman who bought the child have been arrested. Strict action has also been taken against police personnel found negligent in the matter,” he said.
A case of human trafficking has been registered based on the father’s written complaint, and further legal proceedings are underway.
