In a dramatic turn of events, Chennai Super Kings will once again rely on their legendary leader MS Dhoni, following the premature exit of skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad from the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL)  season due to injury. The news was confirmed by head coach Stephen Fleming, who announced that the 42-year-old Dhoni will step in as captain for the rest of the tournament, according to a report by PTI.

Gaikwad’s injury marks a significant setback for the five-time IPL champions. The young opener had been entrusted with leadership responsibilities at the start of the season, signaling a new era for the franchise. However, his campaign has now been cut short, and the team will once again turn to the ever-reliable Dhoni to guide them through the crucial final stretch.

“Ruturaj is unfortunately out of the tournament, and MS will take over the captaincy,” Fleming said during a media interaction without disclosing specific details about the nature or severity of Gaikwad’s injury.

Dhoni, who had voluntarily handed over the captain’s armband to Gaikwad ahead of this season, now returns to the role he knows best. Under his leadership, CSK has clinched five IPL titles, and he remains a towering presence in the dressing room and a beloved figure among fans.

As the league enters its decisive phase with the playoffs on the horizon, Chennai Super Kings will be banking on Dhoni’s tactical acumen and vast experience to steady the side following a challenging period. His return to captaincy could inject fresh energy into the squad and reignite their push for yet another title.
