The Supreme Court has put the National Testing Agency (NTA) in the dock.

The court may have refused to order a re-examination of NEET-UG- 2024 in which serious charges of irregularities had been leveled through various PILs and the issue had been making headlines but it has clearly said that the manner in which NTA had conducted the examination gives rise to several serious questions.

The Supreme Court gave no credence to NTA’s pleadings that it had to conduct this examination at thousands of centers in the country and that lakhs of students had appeared in the examination.

The NTA had enough time and funding to get this important national-level examination conducted fairly and smoothly, but the agency could not live up to its responsibility.

In its detailed order, the Apex Court said, looking at the discussions and arguments till now no question mark could be put on the sanctity of NEET.

The Supreme Court made it clear that a system should be put in place to keep the faith of the people in the examination system alive.

The Supreme Court has also directed that the agency should inform the court about measures adopted by it to make the system reliable. The court also said it has pointed out specific areas into which the committee should focus and plug loopholes.

The court said, it was clear the there were serious security lapses. It has also come to our knowledge that question papers were despatched in E Rikshaw and help of private courier companies was also taken.
