New Structure Near Old Yamuna Bridge in Arail Is Not a Traffic Bridge but a Pipeline Corridor for Water Supply Project
Prayagraj, Arail: A new structure being constructed near the old Yamuna bridge in Arail has surprised residents, raising questions about what kind of bridge is being built, especially since no public announcement had been made about it.
However, there is no need for confusion — the structure is not meant for vehicular or pedestrian movement. Instead, it is being constructed to carry a large water pipeline from the Yamuna River to a water treatment plant.
The Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam is building a new water treatment plant in the Naini area for water supply, similar to the existing facility at Karelabaag.
At this plant, Yamuna water will also be treated and supplied to households. Just like at Karelabaag, an intake well with a capacity of eight crore litres will be constructed in the middle of the Yamuna at Arail.
From this intake well, a pipeline will travel along the under-construction bridge to the treatment plant.
Executive Engineer and Project Officer Amitraj of Jal Nigam stated that under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, a comprehensive water supply infrastructure is being developed for the Naini area.
Approximately 2.25 lakh residents will benefit from this project. Once the plant becomes operational, people in the area will no longer need to depend on hand pumps for water.
Project Cost: ₹273.11 crore
Intake Well Capacity in Yamuna: 100.32 MLD
Beneficiary Population: 223,550
Water Treatment Plant Capacity: 81.00 MLD
Number of Reservoirs for Supply: 19
Pipeline Length for Supply: 480 km
Household Water Connections to be Provided: 38,000
