A Family’s Desperate Cry for Answers

A new wave of panic and outrage has swept across Pakistan and among the global Pakistani diaspora after Kasim Khan, son of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, accused authorities of keeping his father in complete isolation inside a “death cell” at Adiala Jail for the last six weeks.

In an emotional message posted on X, Kasim stated that his family has been denied every form of contact since early October, despite multiple court orders permitting visitation.

My father has been under arrest for 845 days. For the past six weeks, he has been kept in solitary confinement in a death cell with zero transparency… No phone calls, no meetings, and no proof of life.”

He further alleged that even his father’s sisters have been turned away every time they attempted to visit and that authorities were “deliberately hiding his condition.”

Rumours of Serious Health Deterioration

The claims come amid intense speculation that Imran Khan’s health has sharply declined.

Supporters have raised alarms about possible medical neglect, especially after reports that even his lawyers have not been allowed to meet him recently, fuelling suspicion and fear.

Kasim said the total communication blackout “is not a security protocol but a deliberate attempt to conceal the truth.”

He appealed to international human-rights organizations and world leaders for immediate intervention, urging them to demand proof that his father is alive and safe.

Official Response: Government and Jail Authorities Deny Allegations

Adiala Jail authorities and senior Pakistani government officials have rejected the accusations, insisting that the former prime minister is healthy and receiving proper care.

Officials also dismissed claims of a secret transfer or disappearance, describing them as politically motivated misinformation intended to create unrest.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that Imran Khan has access to medical facilities, tasty food and other amenities, and rumours about his condition were “baseless and engineered.”

Growing Protests & Political Repercussions

Kasim’s appeal has triggered spontaneous street demonstrations, especially outside Adiala Jail, where supporters gathered demanding proof of life.

Reports also surfaced claiming that one of Imran’s sisters was forcibly stopped outside the facility while attempting to meet him, an incident that has further ignited anger.

PTI, his political party, has called for an immediate judicial inspection of prison facilities and international monitoring.

Two Years Behind Bars

Imran Khan, 73, has been imprisoned since August 2023, following his removal from office through a no-confidence motion in April 2022. He is fighting multiple cases, including:

  • Alleged corruption in the Toshakhana gifts case
  • Terrorism-related charges
  • Treason and contempt of the military establishment
  • Foreign funding and financial irregularities

His supporters insist the cases are politically motivated, aimed at preventing him from participating in elections.

What Happens Next

Human-rights groups and diplomatic observers have called for clarity and transparency, warning that any harm to Imran Khan could push Pakistan into historic political unrest.

For now, the two versions of the story remain worlds apart:

  • The family claims silence equals danger.
  • The government claims calm and normalcy.

Until independent verification is provided, the questions haunting supporters remain unanswered:
Where is Imran Khan? What is his real condition? And why has no one been allowed to see him?
