Noida Violence: Private Company Workers Protest Over Wage Hike, Torch Vehicles and Clash With Police in Gautam Buddh Nagar
Tensions escalated in several parts of Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district on Monday as protests by private company employees demanding higher wages and improved working conditions turned violent.
The demonstrations, which had been ongoing for the past three days, intensified in Noida after agitated workers took to the streets, indulging in vandalism, arson, and stone-pelting incidents.
According to officials, the unrest was most severe in the Phase-2 industrial area of Noida, where protesters allegedly set fire to several vehicles, including police vehicles, and damaged both public and private property.
Incidents of violence were also reported from Sector-84, where multiple vehicles were torched.
A video circulating online reportedly shows a police vehicle being vandalized and overturned by the crowd. Several police personnel sustained injuries during stone-pelting and were admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The violent demonstrations led to major traffic disruptions across multiple parts of the district, causing significant inconvenience to commuters heading to offices on Monday morning.
Authorities rushed additional police forces to the affected areas in an attempt to restore law and order. Senior administrative officials reached the spot and held discussions with worker representatives, appealing for calm and assuring them that their concerns would be addressed.
Police said that mild force was used in certain areas when the crowd became uncontrollable. While the situation has gradually improved in some locations, tension continues to prevail, and authorities remain on high alert to prevent further escalation.
The primary cause of the agitation is the employees’ dissatisfaction with alleged irregularities by company management, including delayed salary payments, low wages, and unfavorable working conditions.
Workers participating in the protest outside the Motherson company in Noida stated that rising inflation has made it increasingly difficult to manage household expenses on their current salaries, prompting them to demand an immediate wage revision along with improved workplace facilities.
A day before the violence, district authorities had conducted a meeting with representatives of the employees and assured them that their demands would be considered.
As part of the proposed measures, officials stated that workers would receive double payment for overtime and that salaries and bonuses would be credited directly to employees’ bank accounts on time.
However, despite these assurances, dissatisfaction among workers persisted, leading to intensified protests.

Key Assurances Given to Employees
Authorities and management reportedly agreed to several measures aimed at addressing employee grievances:
- No employee will be terminated arbitrarily without valid justification.
- Overtime work will be compensated at double the standard rate without any deductions.
- Employees will be entitled to a weekly holiday; if required to work on Sundays, they will receive double pay.
- Pending bonuses will be credited to employees’ bank accounts by November 30.
- All companies will establish Internal Committees to prevent workplace sexual harassment, headed by a woman, along with complaint boxes for reporting grievances.
- Employers will ensure respectful and dignified treatment of employees at the workplace.
- Salaries will be credited by the 10th of every month along with salary slips for transparency.
- No worker will face termination for participating in the ongoing protest.
- Wages will be revised in accordance with any increase announced by the state government.
Despite these commitments, workers remain skeptical about implementation, and the administration continues to monitor the situation closely.
Authorities have appealed to protesters to maintain peace while negotiations continue, emphasizing that constructive dialogue is the best way to resolve disputes and prevent further violence.
