PRAYAGRAJ: The Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), in collaboration with the Surgery Department of SRN Hospital, organized a two-day training workshop on advanced gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy techniques starting Saturday. This would prove to be highly beneficial for those seeking treatment at Community Health Centres (CHC) in the district.

The workshop was inaugurated at Motilal Nehru Medical College under the guidance of Dr. V.K. Pandey, Head of the Department of Surgery, and Dr. Neelam Singh, Medical Superintendent. The event was presided over by former Principal Dr. Probal Niyogi. Surgery Department Professor Dr. Vaibhav Srivastava welcomed all the guests.

The training focused on endoscopic expertise in gastrointestinal diseases. Dr. M. He highlighted that the majority of GI bleeding cases can now be managed via endoscopy, reducing the need for complex surgeries.

Speaking about the benefits, Dr. Prabal Niyogi emphasized that this training will be a lifesaver for critically ill patients, as these procedures can help save lives without major surgery. He also noted that the workshop would enhance the treatment quality for patients and upgrade the skills of young surgeons.

The workshop featured detailed sessions on endoscopic equipment handling, instruments, disposables, and sterilization procedures. Various surgical teams, anesthetists, and technicians participated, including Dr Shabi Ahmad, former HOD Surgery, Dr. Santosh Singh, Dr. Sanjay Singh, Dr. Mukesh Singh, and Dr. Rajkum, among others.
