Operation Pimple in J&K’s Kupwara: Two Terrorists Killed, Soldier Injured as Hunt Continues in Keran and Chhatru Sectors
Security forces in Jammu & Kashmir have launched major joint operations against terrorist infiltration and hideouts across two front-line sectors — and the latest developments underscore the intense pressure on militants, as well as the risks being borne by troops.
Kupwara Operation: Infiltration Foiled, Two Terrorists Neutralised
In the early hours of Saturday, troops from the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, acting on “specific intelligence input”, initiated a targeted operation in the Keran sector of Kupwara district in northern J&K.
According to official sources, alert soldiers spotted suspicious movement along the Line of Control (LoC) and challenged the individuals, who immediately opened fire. The ensuing firefight ended with two terrorists being killed.
As of now, the operation remains ongoing, with search parties combing the rugged terrain of Keran for any additional infiltrators or militants in hiding. The Chinar Corps confirmed the search is still underway.
Kishtwar Encounter: Soldier Hurt in Chhatru Sector Gunfight
Meanwhile, in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, an operation led by the White Knight Corps of the Army, along with the J&K Police, encountered militants in the forested Kalaban-Chhatru area.
During the operation, a paratrooper was wounded when terrorists opened fire on the advancing team.
The injured soldier was air-lifted to the Army’s Command Hospital in Udhampur, and his condition is reported as stable.
Officials say the operation in the Chhatru sector is still active, with security forces maintaining a high level of alert amid the dense terrain and known militant hideouts.
Why These Operations Matter
These operations come at a time when security agencies in J&K are intensifying efforts across districts such as Kupwara, Kishtwar, Doda, and Udhampur to dismantle terrorist networks, intercept infiltration attempts, and prevent militants from using terrain and winter cover to their advantage.
The rugged hills of Keran along the LoC and the deep forest belts of Kishtwar’s Chhatru region have long been used by militants to infiltrate or hide.
The success of this week’s engagements signals a sharper intelligence-driven focus and readiness of forces to strike at short notice.
What Comes Next
In the Kupwara operation, the armed forces will continue to painstakingly sweep and clear the area, verifying all movement, shelter, and infiltration routes.
The large search grid suggests that more militants may have been in the vicinity, and the hunt is not yet over.
In Kishtwar, the wounded soldier’s stable condition provides some relief, but the terrain’s challenges mean security forces must remain cautious as they advance against possible sleeper militants.
The broader implication is clear: with winter approaching and terrain heights becoming more crucial, operations like these are expected to escalate further, requiring sustained coordination between the Army, police, and intelligence agencies.
As of now, the two terrorists killed in Kupwara and the soldier injured in Kishtwar stand as stark reminders of the human stakes in the continuing struggle to secure India’s northern borders.
