Operation Sindoor Demonstrated India’s Multi-Domain Military Power and Global Strategic Readiness, Says Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi
Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Indian Army, stated that Operation Sindoor has emerged as a defining example of India’s growing capability to conduct coordinated, multi-domain military operations, showcasing the nation’s strategic strength to the world.
Speaking at the Ran Samvad platform in Bengaluru, the Army Chief emphasized that the operation underlined the critical importance of synergy among the three armed forces in addressing complex security challenges in modern warfare.
General Dwivedi highlighted that contemporary conflicts cannot be effectively handled by any single branch of the military acting independently.
Instead, success in modern battlefields depends upon the seamless integration of capabilities across land, air, sea, cyber, and information domains.
He explained that in multi-dimensional operations, the relative importance and leadership of different forces evolve depending on the nature of the mission, operational environment, and strategic objectives.
Referring to Operation Sindoor as a valuable learning model for future defence planning, the Army Chief noted that the mission reflected a high level of coordination between intelligence systems and operational units.
According to him, the operation involved the effective utilisation of ground-based intelligence networks, cyber intelligence inputs, and electronic warfare capabilities.
The fusion of these intelligence streams enabled the Army and the Air Force to carry out precisely targeted joint actions, ensuring optimal use of resources and minimising operational risks.
He further explained that the role of the Navy was equally significant, as strategic adjustments in naval deployment helped shape the overall operational assessment.
The synchronised deployment of maritime assets contributed to strengthening India’s strategic posture, reinforcing the principle that success in modern warfare depends on integrated planning rather than isolated action.
General Dwivedi stressed that no single operational domain determined the outcome of Operation Sindoor; rather, it was the collective effectiveness of multiple forces working in coordination that ensured mission success.
The Army Chief also drew attention to the increasing importance of information warfare and psychological preparedness in contemporary conflicts.
He revealed that nearly 15 percent of India’s effort during the operation was directed towards countering misinformation and disinformation campaigns.
According to him, managing the narrative space has become as important as battlefield success, as adversaries increasingly rely on propaganda, cyber manipulation, and perception management strategies to influence public opinion and strategic outcomes.
In this context, General Dwivedi spoke about the establishment of specialised institutional mechanisms following the operation, including the creation of a War Information Organisation and a Psychological Defence Division.
These bodies are intended to strengthen India’s capacity to respond effectively to information warfare challenges, ensuring that misleading narratives and hostile propaganda do not undermine national security interests.
Emphasising the future direction of India’s defence preparedness, the Army Chief stated that deeper integration across all operational domains will be essential to address evolving threats.
He noted that coordination between conventional military forces, cyber units, intelligence agencies, and strategic communication frameworks must continue to improve in order to maintain operational readiness in an increasingly complex global security environment.
General Dwivedi concluded that Operation Sindoor has provided valuable insights into the conduct of integrated warfare and has demonstrated India’s ability to adapt to rapidly changing conflict dynamics.
The lessons drawn from the operation, he said, will play a crucial role in strengthening joint operational doctrines and enhancing cooperation among the armed forces, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and strategically prepared defence structure for the country.
