PM Modi at HT Leadership Summit: “When the World Talks Recession, India Writes a Story of Growth”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asserted that at a time when the world is speaking about recession and instability, India is emerging as a beacon of progress, trust, and unity.
Addressing the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2025, he said that while global economies face uncertainty and fragmentation, India is rapidly transforming into a pillar of confidence and a bridge of cooperation for the world.
Referring to the recently released GDP data for the second quarter, the Prime Minister highlighted that India’s 8% growth rate reflects a new momentum of development, positioning the country as the leading engine of global economic progress.
“Today, India is the fastest-growing major economy in the world, driving global growth,” he stated proudly.
Freeing the Nation from a “Colonial Mindset”
Calling the colonial mindset the biggest obstacle in the path of a developed India, PM Modi emphasized the need to break free from it within the next decade.
He recalled his recent appeal to the nation to eliminate the mental slavery that stems from the Macaulay-era policies introduced 200 years ago.
“By 2035, it will be 200 years since those policies were imposed.
We now have ten years to free our country mentally and culturally from that legacy,” he urged.
India’s Confidence in an Uncertain World
PM Modi noted that the first quarter of the 21st century has been marked by major global disruptions—economic crises, pandemic, and technological slowdowns. Yet, India has created a distinct identity fueled by confidence, stability, and reform, he said.
Small Cities Becoming Growth Engines
Underscoring the power of India’s emerging regions, he remarked that the nation’s unlocked potential is now gaining full momentum.
Greater investments in infrastructure, connectivity, and industrial development are transforming Eastern India, he said.
Villages and smaller towns are rapidly gaining modern facilities and evolving into new hubs for startups and MSMEs.
This grassroots surge of innovation, he noted, is turning lesser-known cities into vibrant economic centers.
“Time and opportunity together create transformation. India’s capabilities, when empowered, fuel unstoppable progress,” he concluded.
