Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Alipurduar, West Bengal, emphasized the vital role of the state in realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

He inaugurated several key developmental initiatives, including the launch of a major city gas distribution (CGD) pipeline project, marking a significant push towards expanding clean energy access in the region.

Addressing a public gathering, PM Modi underlined the importance of delivering government services directly to citizens’ doorsteps.

“This is not just the launch of a pipeline; it represents our commitment to accessible and efficient public service delivery,” he said, referring to the gas pipeline network as a symbol of the Centre’s efforts to build a gas-based economy.

He noted the rapid expansion of gas infrastructure under his administration, stating that the number of districts connected through the gas pipeline network has grown from just 66 in 2014 to over 550 today.

“This has not only improved the health of our people but has also eased financial burdens by reducing household energy expenses,” the Prime Minister added.

Highlighting Bengal’s strategic and cultural importance, Modi said, “As India moves decisively on the path of becoming a developed nation, Bengal’s involvement in this transformation is not just anticipated—it is essential. That is why the central government is continuously boosting investment, innovation, and infrastructure in the state.”

Reflecting on the cultural richness and geographical diversity of Alipurduar, he said, “This region stands at a confluence of borders and traditions.

It connects with Bhutan on one side and receives the warmth of Assam on the other. To one side lies the scenic beauty of Jalpaiguri, and to the other, the proud legacy of Cooch Behar.”

The city gas distribution project inaugurated today, Modi said, is a testament to the government’s ongoing commitment to building robust and sustainable energy infrastructure in eastern India.

He reiterated the Centre’s focus on ensuring inclusive development by strengthening connectivity and promoting clean energy across every region of the country.
