PM Modi, Home Minister Shah Lead National Security Deliberations at DGP Conference in Raipur
A major national-level security dialogue unfolded in Raipur on Saturday, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah held extensive discussions with Directors General of Police (DGPs) from across the country.
The high-profile annual conference focused on strengthening internal security and developing a comprehensive strategy to secure India’s future.
According to an official statement, the conference—concluding on Sunday with the Prime Minister’s address—aimed to evaluate progress made in addressing key policing challenges, while shaping a visionary roadmap to build a safer and more resilient India.
Chairing the conference, Prime Minister Modi engaged in detailed deliberations covering a wide spectrum of national security concerns.
He emphasised that the DGP-IGP conference serves as a vital platform for exchanging best practices, fostering innovation, and enhancing cooperation among the country’s top security officials.
The second day of the event, held in Atal Nagar, was dedicated to an in-depth review of strategies to fortify the nation’s security apparatus.
Discussions covered critical subjects including law and order, internal security mechanisms, countering cybercrime, technological integration in policing, and emerging national threats.
PM Modi stressed the significance of the forum in strengthening India’s internal security architecture and preparing the police forces for future challenges.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote that the conference’s opening day witnessed thorough deliberations on various aspects of the national security framework.
He reiterated that the event represents an important opportunity for knowledge-sharing and collaborative planning between central and state security agencies.
The Raipur conference is being viewed as a crucial step toward enhancing coordination among security forces, modernising policing systems, and evolving strategies to address rapidly emerging threats in a changing geopolitical environment.
At the three-day 60th national DGP/IGP conference in Raipur, Amit Shah inaugurated the event by describing it not just as a forum for discussion, but as a key platform that transforms dialogues into concrete policy for internal security.
He credited the government’s efforts over the past seven years for strengthening the security grid by building 586 fortified police stations — a strategy that has cut the number of Naxal-affected districts from 126 in 2014 to only 11 today.
He expressed confidence that the country will be completely free of Naxalism before the next such conference.
Amit Shah further announced that the government has adopted a comprehensive approach to internal security, targeting old challenges like Left-wing extremism, insurgency in the North-East, and militancy in Jammu & Kashmir — and declared that these “three chronic hotspots,” once a major threat to national stability, will soon be fully integrated into the mainstream, enjoying peace comparable with rest of the country.
He urged police forces nationwide to launch a “360-degree attack” on narcotics and organised crime, forming a system where traffickers and criminals will not be allowed even an inch of space.
He also affirmed that strengthening institutions such as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and reinforcing laws like the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), along with newer, stringent criminal laws and enhanced rules against fugitives and narcotics, will ensure that India’s policing becomes among the most advanced in the world.
