PM Modi on Pahalgam Attack & Operation Sindoor: “Terrorism Won’t Be Spared”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking in the Lok Sabha, condemned the Pahalgam terror attack as the “height of cruelty” and declared that terrorism and its perpetrators will not be spared.
Referring to the swift and powerful military response through Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister said that no global power tried to restrain India’s right to self-defence.
He added that following the attack, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), after incurring massive losses, reportedly pleaded with India to stop further strikes, admitting, “We can’t take it anymore.”
During his address, PM Modi responded to the Opposition’s criticism over Trump’s mediation claims and firmly stated that no world leader, including former US President Donald Trump, asked India to halt Operation Sindoor.
He recounted that on the night of May 9, U.S. Vice President JD Vance made several attempts to contact him. “I was in critical meetings with the armed forces. When I finally returned the call, he warned of a potential large-scale Pakistani retaliation.
I told him clearly—if they attack, we’ll respond with greater force. We will not answer bullets with bullets, but with cannons.”
PM Modi reiterated that India faced no diplomatic pressure to stop the operation. “No leader from any nation suggested we back down.
The world witnessed India’s resolve,” he said, slamming Congress for questioning the mission’s outcome.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came in response to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s sharp criticism.
Rahul questioned why Operation Sindoor, which he claimed lasted only 22 minutes, was abruptly stopped, and challenged PM Modi to call Donald Trump a liar over his repeated claims of mediating between India and Pakistan.
Rahul asserted that despite provocations from the ruling party, the Opposition stood united behind the government during the operation.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also slammed the government for signing a ceasefire agreement with Pakistan post-Operation Sindoor, demanding to know the terms and reasons. He criticized the PM for not publicly refuting Trump’s repeated mediation claims.
In the Rajya Sabha, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh defended the government’s stance, stating that Operation Sindoor sent a powerful message not only to Pakistan but to all its backers. “If Pakistan can’t act against terrorism, India is ready to do it for them,” he declared.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, speaking in Lok Sabha, attacked the government over the intelligence and security failure that allowed the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, to occur without a single security personnel present at the site.
“Why was there no one to protect the citizens? Why was there no preemptive action?” she questioned.
The Parliament session continued to be dominated by discussions on the April 22 Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, and Operation Mahadev, the latter of which led to the elimination of three terrorists reportedly linked to the Pahalgam tragedy.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah opened the debate, confirming the links and strongly criticizing Congress leader P. Chidambaram for demanding proof that the attackers were from Pakistan.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also raised concerns about the intelligence failure behind the Pahalgam strike, asking who would be held accountable. He called Operation Sindoor “a result of strategic failure.”
Later in the day, PM Modi returned to the House and lauded the armed forces, saying, “April 22 was avenged in 22 minutes.”
He also took a jab at Congress, suggesting that some of its senior leaders were being silenced internally for presenting India’s strong response to the world. “Perhaps they are not allowed to speak in Parliament because their views made their leadership uneasy.”
Meanwhile, in Rajya Sabha, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram reiterated the question of why PM Modi never publicly denied Trump’s claims of brokering peace between India and Pakistan.
