PM Modi Urges Youth to Embrace Self-Reliance, Links Call to His Own Life Journey
“Self-reliance is not just a policy, it is a necessity in today’s world,” declared Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, as he passionately urged India’s youth to adopt indigenous products and lead the country toward a future built on ‘Make in India’.
Speaking at the virtual foundation stone-laying ceremony of Sardardham Phase II in Ahmedabad, after Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a girls’ hostel under the same project, PM Modi underlined the government’s commitment to creating maximum employment opportunities for India’s young population.
Drawing from his own life and rise from humble beginnings, Modi emphasized how Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) had been a guiding principle throughout his journey.
From selling tea at a railway station as a young boy to leading the world’s largest democracy, Modi’s life, he said, was an example of how perseverance, skill, and self-belief can transform destiny. I know the value of self-reliance,” he said.
“There was a time when I had very little, but I learned to depend on myself. That lesson has stayed with me, and today, I want every young Indian to have the same confidence—to stand on their own feet, create opportunities, and not wait for them.”
‘Skill India’ as a Tool for Empowerment
Highlighting the government’s flagship Skill India Mission, Modi revealed how the initiative has already empowered crores of youth with professional training in diverse sectors. “The world today is grappling with the challenges of an ageing population.
Many countries need a strong workforce. India, with its youth power, can step forward to meet this demand,” he said, adding that skilled youth are not only employable globally but also capable of creating opportunities within India.
“Once the youth become skilled, they don’t just secure jobs—they become creators, innovators, and leaders. Skill gives them strength, and strength gives them self-reliance,” he said.
A Call for a New Swadeshi Movement
The Prime Minister also appealed to traders and citizens to adopt a mindset of nationalism in their purchases. “Patriotism is not limited to just Operation Sindoor,” Modi said firmly. “Our traders should take a pledge to sell only Swadeshi items.
Every home should become a symbol of Indian pride by embracing local products. This is the foundation of a self-reliant India.”
He added that the ‘Make in India’ campaign is not just an economic initiative but a cultural and emotional movement to preserve India’s identity and secure its future. “Our enthusiasm for Make in India should only grow stronger.
A true Swadeshi movement will give India’s youth the wings to fly, while keeping them rooted in their heritage,” Modi remarked.
Global Recognition of Indian Talent
Reflecting on India’s growing global reputation, Modi said that Indian youth have been making waves across various industries, from healthcare and education to space exploration and technology.
“The world doesn’t just value our labour anymore, it values our talent,” he said, asserting that India’s skilled youth will be the architects of a brighter tomorrow.
A Leader Who Lived His Words
PM Modi’s words carry weight because they come from lived experience. From his early struggles to his rise as a global leader, Modi’s life is a testament to the power of Atmanirbharta.
His appeal to traders, entrepreneurs, and the youth is not a mere slogan—it is a philosophy shaped by years of resilience, resourcefulness, and hard work.
As India looks to the future, Modi’s message is clear: “The youth of this country must lead a movement where no foreign product enters our homes, and no Indian talent goes unrecognized. Self-reliance is not just about economics—it’s about national pride and preparing for generations to come.”
