PM Narendra Modi Hoists Dharm Dhwaja at Ayodhya: A Historic Moment Witnessed by Thousands
In a majestic ceremony marked by deep emotion and divine reverence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hoisted the Dharm Dhwaja atop the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, marking the fulfilment of a centuries-long spiritual aspiration of millions of Ram devotees across the world.
The event, held in the presence of nearly 6,000 distinguished guests, resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Ram” as the saffron flag ascended the temple’s peak.
The ceremony was attended by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat, and Treasurer of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, Mahant Govind Dev Giri, who formally led the ritual flag worship before the hoisting.
PM Modi Turns Emotional as the Flag Reaches the Temple Summit
At the auspicious Abhijit Muhurat—11:45 AM—the Prime Minister rotated an electronic lever, initiating the ascension of the grand saffron flag measuring 22 feet in length and 11 feet in width.
The flag, bearing the sacred emblem of the Ikshvaku dynasty—the Kovidar tree—along with the symbol of Om placed inside a radiant depiction of the sun, reached the temple pinnacle within three minutes and fifteen seconds.
As it unfurled triumphantly, Prime Minister Modi folded his hands in deep devotion, visibly overwhelmed.
This historic moment marked the conclusion of the 21-day Dhwajarohan ritual that began on November 21 and included consecration ceremonies across eight temples in Ayodhya.

A Spiritual Journey of Centuries Comes Full Circle
This milestone is the culmination of a 500-year-long wait and the collective aspiration of countless devotees. Remarkably, all major milestones of Ram Temple construction have taken place exactly during the Abhijit Muhurat:
- 5 August 2020 – Groundbreaking Ceremony (Shilanyas)
- 22 January 2024 – Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla
- 26 November 2025 – Flag Hoisting atop the temple summit
Mahant Govind Dev Giri remarked that the timing is aligned with ancient tradition and divine significance—Abhijit Muhurat marks both the birth of Lord Rama in Treta Yuga and the divine wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita on Vivah Panchami, which coincided with Tuesday’s ceremony.

Grand Welcome and Sacred Rituals
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Ayodhya at 9:35 AM aboard an Indian Air Force aircraft at Maharshi Valmiki International Airport, where BJP office bearers received him.
After reaching Saket Degree College via a special helicopter, he was welcomed by the Governor and the Chief Minister, before proceeding by road to the temple, where residents showered flower petals enthusiastically along the route.
On entering the temple complex at approximately 10 AM, the Prime Minister first offered prayers at the Sapta Mandap, performing darshan of revered sages—Valmiki, Agastya, Vashishtha, Vishwamitra, Mata Shabri, Devi Ahilya, and Nishad Raj.
He then visited the temple of Sheshavatar before greeting the assembly of 6,000 guests.
At around 11:15 AM, amidst Vedic chants, he entered the main sanctum with Dr Mohan Bhagwat, where he performed aarti of the installed Ram Darbar and accepted jal and prasadam, breaking his day-long fast.
The sacred proceedings were broadcast across Ayodhya on hundreds of LED screens, enabling the entire city to witness the divine moment.
A Symbolic Declaration of Spiritual Sovereignty
DDrMohan Bhagwat emphasised that the Dharm Dhwaja symbolises the lineage of the Raghu dynasty. With the unfurling of this flag, the temple now stands as a radiant beacon of faith, unity, and cultural resurgence.
The historic celebration marks a triumphant chapter in India’s cultural renaissance—one that echoes across generations and around the world.
