PM Narendra Modi in Italy to attend G7 meet. Aims to address global challenges with the help of nations:

PM Narendra Modi is in Italy where he has been invited for the G7 summit.

This is PM Modi’s first foreign visit after being sworn in as PM for the third consecutive term.

The PM will meet several world leaders on the  sidelines of this summit.

PM wrote on X, “looking forward to engaging in productive discussions with world leaders. Together we aim to address global challenges and foster international cooperation for a brighter future”.

Before leaving for Italy he said, he was grateful for his first foreign visit and expressed being grateful for being extended the invitation for the G7 summit.

The meeting is being held in Borgo Egnazia in the southern region of Puglia -a luxury hotel.

The G7 comprises USA, Japan, Germany, France, Italy and Britain. The European union participates in all discussions and is represented by the president’s of both the European council and the European commission.

The host country traditionally invites outside guests to join some of the sessions. Italy has invited Pope Francis, the king if Jordan as well as leaders of Ukraine, India, Brazil, Argentina, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania, which hold the presidency of the African Union, says a Reuters report.

The summit is likely to discuss climate change and development about Africa, middle East and Ukrainian issue and Artificial intelligence.

US President Joe Biden will sign a new security agreement with Ukraine. China will also be discussed at length. The leaders are likely to issue statement expressing concern on Chinese industrial overcapacity and will also look at the possibility of imposing additional measures to level the field with heavily subsidised Chinese companies. The US feels much more strongly about this than some EU nations.

US officials also expect the G7 to send tough warning to smaller Chinese banks to stop assisting Russia in evading Western sanctions, reports Reuters.
