PM Narendra Modi Urges National Unity Amid Middle East War, Highlights Energy Concerns and Safety of Indians in Gulf Nations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon citizens to remain united and resilient in the face of growing global uncertainties arising from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Addressing the nation during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister emphasised that the consequences of the war are not limited to the countries directly involved but have wider implications affecting many nations, including India.

The Prime Minister stressed that this is a time for collective strength and solidarity, urging citizens to stand shoulder to shoulder to help the nation successfully navigate the emerging challenges.

He underlined that national unity becomes especially important during periods of global instability, when economic and strategic uncertainties may affect everyday life.

While referring to the role of public discourse in such sensitive times, the Prime Minister cautioned certain political voices against adopting a negative or self-serving approach that may weaken national morale.

He emphasised that responsible leadership requires constructive guidance and a commitment to the larger national interest, particularly during challenging international developments.

According to him, divisive narratives at such a time could prove counterproductive and may harm the collective spirit required to overcome adversity.

Highlighting the broader impact of the conflict, the Prime Minister observed that the war in India’s extended neighbourhood has implications for the entire population of 1.4 billion citizens.

He urged people to place trust in the information and advisories issued by the government, noting that such measures are designed to keep the welfare and security of the public in mind.

Drawing parallels with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister recalled how citizens had collectively demonstrated discipline, patience, and cooperation despite facing hardships.

He pointed out that the country had successfully navigated the difficult pandemic period through unity and shared responsibility.

Referring to both COVID-19 and the present geopolitical tensions, he noted that certain global developments are beyond the direct control of any single government, yet preparedness and collective effort can significantly reduce their impact.

The Prime Minister observed that it has been nearly a month since the outbreak of the current conflict, and if the situation continues for a prolonged period, economic and logistical effects may be felt in India as well.

He cautioned that disruptions in global supply chains, energy markets, and trade routes may create challenges that require patience and cooperation from citizens.

He also expressed appreciation towards the Gulf nations for ensuring the safety and well-being of millions of Indian nationals living and working in the region.

He acknowledged the strong ties between India and these countries and conveyed satisfaction that the Indian diaspora is being taken care of during this period of instability.

Referring to India’s energy security, the Prime Minister noted that a significant portion of the country’s oil and gas supplies originates from regions currently affected by the conflict.

He emphasised that any prolonged instability in these areas may influence global energy prices and supply patterns, which in turn could have economic implications for India.

The Prime Minister further pointed out that the world was expecting a period of recovery and economic progress after the pandemic.

However, instead of stability, the international community is witnessing multiple conflicts, including the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, as well as tensions in the Middle East.

He stressed that such global developments highlight the need for peace, diplomacy, and cooperation among nations.

Reiterating the importance of unity, resilience, and responsible conduct, the Prime Minister urged citizens to remain confident and work together in the spirit of national interest so that the country can overcome any emerging challenges successfully. 🇮🇳
