Prayagraj Faces LPG Supply Concerns Amid Global Tensions; Consumers Queue at Gas Agencies, Small Eateries Affected

Prayagraj: The impact of the ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran is now being felt at the local level in Prayagraj, where consumers are facing increasing difficulty in obtaining LPG cylinders.

Despite official assurances that there is no shortage of cooking gas, several gas agencies in the city have witnessed large crowds of anxious consumers trying to secure cylinders, leading to tense situations and public resentment.

On Tuesday, chaotic scenes were reported at Hari Kripa Indane Gas Agency in Govindpur, where a large number of consumers gathered after learning about possible disruptions in supply.

Many customers alleged that the agency was deliberately refusing to provide cylinders, claiming that supplies had not reached the outlet.

The explanation failed to convince the agitated crowd, resulting in heated arguments between consumers and the agency staff.

The situation escalated to such an extent that police had to be called in to maintain order.

Even after police intervention, tempers remained high, with some consumers showing anger and frustration over the uncertainty surrounding cylinder availability.

The police, however, handled the situation patiently, appealing to people to remain calm and maintain discipline while standing in queues.

A similar situation was witnessed at another LPG distribution outlet in Meerapur, where residents expressed dissatisfaction over delays in receiving cylinders despite having prior bookings.

The growing anxiety among consumers has led to increased footfall at gas agencies, as people prefer to personally collect cylinders rather than rely on home delivery services.

According to sources, while some consumers were eventually able to obtain cylinders directly from the agencies, home delivery services have been significantly affected.

Vendors reportedly are not being provided with delivery slips containing the names and addresses of customers, preventing them from delivering cylinders to households.

This disruption has forced many residents to repeatedly visit gas agencies, adding to the congestion and confusion at distribution centres.

The situation has also adversely impacted small businesses across the city. Dozens of small eateries, roadside dhabas and food stalls that depend heavily on LPG cylinders for daily operations have been forced to shut down temporarily due to the shortage in supply.

Owners of these establishments say the disruption has affected their livelihood, leaving them with little option but to return to their native villages during this critical period when their source of income has come to a halt.

The developing situation has created concern among residents and small business operators alike, as uncertainty over LPG availability continues.

Consumers are hoping that authorities will ensure a smooth and uninterrupted supply of cylinders in the coming days to prevent further inconvenience and economic hardship.
