The victim’s family has filed a complaint not only against the husband but also against her father-in-law and brother-in-law, alleging their complicity in the crime.
According to locals, the accused locked the room from the inside before assaulting his wife mercilessly.
The victim, 27-year-old Khushboo, daughter of Shobhnath from Dhanshipur village under the Uttarav police jurisdiction, had been married for eight years to Rohit, son of Rajbahadur, a resident of Ward One, Hindia.
The couple, who worked as daily wage laborers, had three children — a daughter and two sons — and reportedly had a history of domestic disputes stemming from financial difficulties.
On Friday afternoon, another argument escalated into tragedy. Rohit allegedly sent the children out of the room, locked the door from inside, and began assaulting Khushboo with a stick.
Her screams drew the attention of neighbors, but the locked door prevented anyone from intervening immediately.
Moments later, her cries stopped, and Rohit tried to escape. Villagers managed to catch him and hand him over to the authorities.
Khushboo, bloodied and unconscious, was rushed to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Upardahan, where doctors declared her dead.
Upon learning of the incident, her family arrived, visibly distraught and mourning the loss.
The victim’s father, Shobhnath, has filed a complaint naming Rohit, his father Rajbahadur, and brother Arvind in connection with the crime.
The complaint alleges that Khushboo had been subjected to abuse and harassment since her marriage, and implicates her in-laws in her death.
Police Action: Station Officer Nitendra Shukla confirmed that Rohit is in police custody, and the investigation into the alleged role of the in-laws is ongoing.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted issues of domestic violence, spousal abuse, and the need for immediate intervention by authorities and communities to protect vulnerable women.
