Prayagraj Police Files Gangster Act Chargesheet Against Atiq Ahmad’s Sons in Umesh Pal Murder Case
Prayagraj Police on Tuesday filed a chargesheet under the Gangster Act against the sons of slain mafia don Atiq Ahmad — Umar Ahmad and Ali Ahmad — along with several other accused, in connection with the murder of advocate Umesh Pal in Prayagraj on February 24, 2023.
According to sources, the Special Court has scheduled the next hearing for two days from now.
Charges and Accused
The police have accused Umar and Ali of being part of the conspiracy to eliminate Umesh Pal, the prime witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case.
Along with them, Atiq’s close aide and lawyer Vijay Mishra, mafia associate Khan Saulat Hanif, Ekhlakh Ahmad, Sadaqat Khan, Atiq’s wife Shaista Parveen, sister Ayesha Noori, and Ashraf’s wife Zainab, along with key shooters Guddu Muslim, Mohammad Arman, and Sabir, have been named in the chargesheet.
However, several accused, including Shaista Parveen, Ayesha Noori, Zainab, Guddu Muslim, Arman, and Sabi, continue to remain absconding.
Prayagraj police submitted the chargesheet under the Gangster Act against Umar, Ali, and other arrested accused from the Dhoomanganj police station.
Sources indicate that invoking the Gangster Act will tighten the legal noose around the accused, making it significantly harder for them to secure bail.
It also paves the way for inquiry and possible attachment of their properties. Recently, Ali was shifted from Naini Jail to Jhansi Jail for security reasons.
Police officials so far have refrained from commenting publicly on the filing of the chargesheet.
Understanding the Background: The Atiq Ahmad Family
Slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, who once wielded massive influence in Uttar Pradesh’s underworld and politics, was assassinated along with his brother Ashraf Ahmad in April 2023 during a police escort for medical examination in Prayagraj — a killing caught live on camera.
Atiq’s criminal empire spanned decades and involved political connections, real estate, and extortion rackets.
His wife, Shaista Parveen, also named in multiple cases, has been on the run since the Umesh Pal murder.
The couple’s sons, Umar and Ali, are now formally facing organized-crime charges, while another son, Asad Ahmad — accused of being directly involved in the Umesh Pal murder — was killed in a police encounter last year in Jhansi.
Two younger minor sons remain under state care.
With the Gangster Act tightening around the family, the legal pursuit of dismantling the Atiq crime network continues.
