Prayagraj Police Launch Coordinated Night Operations, Nab Three Wanted Criminals, Send Strong Warning Against Rising Street Crime
Prayagraj: In a powerful demonstration of its zero-tolerance policy toward crime, the Yamunanagar zone police of Prayagraj carried out two high-intensity encounters late Friday night, leading to the arrest of three wanted criminals.
The back-to-back operations, conducted with precision by Special Operations Group (SOG) teams in coordination with local police, not only resulted in the capture of notorious chain-snatchers but also sent a clear signal that lawbreakers will not be allowed to disrupt the city’s peace.
During the first encounter, near Bundh Road close to the new bridge, the joint teams of Naini Police and SOG successfully apprehended two men identified as Umashankar Jaiswal, a resident of Dandiya Allapur (under George Town police station), and Santosh Kumar Rawat of Gyasuddinpur, Transport Nagar (under Dhoomanganj police station).
Both were already wanted in several cases. Umashankar sustained a gunshot wound in his leg during the encounter and was immediately admitted to the hospital under police security.
Investigators have connected these two men to a high-profile chain-snatching incident on 8 September in Jhilmil Colony, where they allegedly targeted Poonam Dwivedi, wife of Daud Nagar resident Nitesh Dwivedi, and fled with her gold chain.
Their arrest has brought relief to victims of such rising street crimes and has reaffirmed police commitment to chase down every lead.
In a separate but simultaneous operation, police cornered another wanted criminal in the Industrial (High-Tech City) area near Sadhwa. The accused, identified as Anubhav alias “Eshu” Rawat, also a resident of Gyasuddinpur, Transport Nagar, was caught after a brief exchange of fire. Like Umashankar, he sustained a leg injury and was taken to the hospital.
His associate, Amy of Kareli, managed to flee in the chaos, but police say they are hot on his trail. Early interrogation indicates the group’s deep involvement in a series of robberies and thefts across Prayagraj, with more cases likely to surface during questioning.
Senior officers hailed the swift action as the result of timely intelligence, street checks, and rapid deployment, underlining that criminals will find no haven in Prayagraj. Authorities also confirmed the recovery of illegal firearms and live cartridges from the arrested men.
These operations underscore the urgent need to continue flushing out such repeat offenders who are tarnishing the city’s law and order and terrorizing ordinary citizens.
Police stressed that such targeted actions are vital to restoring confidence among the public, deterring organized gangs, and ensuring Prayagraj remains a safe place to live and work.
With fugitives like Amy still at large and other criminal networks operating in the shadows, the crackdown must continue. Every arrest, officers said, not only solves past crimes but also prevents future ones, reinforcing the message that Prayagraj will not tolerate those who seek to disturb its peace.
