Prayagraj: Police Team Attacked With Stones During Raid in Phulpur’s Aghua Village; Several Officers Injured, 4 Arrested, Main Accused Absconding

Violence broke out in Aghua village under the Phulpur Kotwali area of Prayagraj district on Friday night when a police team attempting to arrest a wanted accused came under attack from a group of villagers.

The mob allegedly resorted to heavy stone pelting, leaving several police personnel, including a sub-inspector, injured. Both government and private vehicles were also damaged in the incident.

According to police sources, the raid was conducted to arrest Mohammad Imran Ahmad alias Gulzar, a resident of Jugni Deeh village, who is wanted in connection with cases related to attempt to murder and illegal sand mining.

Surveillance inputs had indicated that the accused was present in Aghua village, reportedly at the residence of village head Salim Khan alias Babloo.

Acting on this information, a police team reached the village late Friday night to conduct a raid.

However, as the police began their operation, a large group of villagers gathered at the spot and started protesting.

The situation quickly escalated, with members of the crowd allegedly launching a stone-pelting attack on the police team.

Senior Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Singh and several other police personnel sustained injuries in the attack. Police vehicles were also damaged during the violence. Amid the chaos, the main accused, Gulzar, managed to escape from the spot.

Upon receiving information about the attack on the police team, additional forces from nearby police stations were rushed to the village to bring the situation under control.

During the operation, four individuals — Mohammad Ibrar Khan, village head Salim Khan alias Babloo, Arsh Khan,n and Faraz Khan — were arrested from the scene.

As the arrested accused were brought to Sikandra police outpost, hundreds of supporters reportedly arrived in dozens of vehicles and surrounded the police outpost in protest. The situation remained tense for several hours.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Phulpur Vivek Yadav reached the spot along with a heavy police force to maintain law and order.

Local MLA Vijma Yadav also arrived at the outpost in support of the accused and remained present there for nearly four hours.

Police have registered a case against 14 persons under serious charges, including rioting, obstruction of government duty, and attack on police personnel.

Teams have been formed to arrest the absconding main accused, Ed Gulzar, and identify other individuals involved in the incident.

Authorities stated that strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible for attacking law enforcement personnel and damaging public property.

The situation in the area is currently reported to be under control, with police maintaining heightened vigilance to prevent any further disturbance.
