On the auspicious occasion of Dev Deepawali, the sacred Sangam Nose in Prayagraj transformed into the epicenter of devotion and splendor on Wednesday evening.
Devotees in large numbers—families, children, and groups of youth—gathered at VIP Ghat, Sangam, Dashashwamedh Ghat, and other riverbanks to offer lamps and pray.
As dusk fell, millions of flickering diyas lit up the ghats, creating a breathtaking divine glow across the Triveni banks, while fireworks and a dazzling laser show lit the sky.
By late afternoon, crowds had begun arriving at Sangam, Ballua Ghat, Dashashwamedh Ghat, Gau Ghat, Nagvasuki Temple Ghat, and nearby areas with lamp offerings.
The administration arranged special lamp-offering platforms at the Sangam Nose, where devotees chanted “Om Namo Narayan” and “Jai Shri Ram” as they lit earthen lamps with deep spiritual fervor.
Selfie enthusiasts captured the divine sight, standing between rows of lamps along the rails and steps of the ghats.
Spectators also admired the colorful lighting across Arail Ghat from the Sangam banks, recording the mesmerizing sight on their phones.
From Ballua Ghat and Gau Ghat, devotees watched the long shimmering trails of floating diyas drifting gracefully across the Yamuna.
Between 6 and 7 pm, a grand fireworks display lit up the riverfront, followed by a spectacular laser show organized by the administration, further enhancing the divine atmosphere.
Ballua Ghat Illuminated With 5,000 Lamps
Ballua Ghat witnessed an extraordinary spiritual celebration, marking the end of the sacred Kartik month.
Thousands of lamps lined the Yamuna bank, making the entire area glow like a celestial realm.
The Nagar Nigam illuminated the ghat with 5,000 diyas, while the Kartik Mahotsav Committee organized cultural performances and a grand Yamuna aarti.
As dusk settled, the ghat steps resembled a carpet of stars descending to Earth. Devotees performed aarti to Goddess Yamuna, praying for prosperity, peace, and happiness.
Sacred Dip on Kartik Purnima
Since early morning, devotees thronged the ghats—from Sangam and Ballua Ghat to Dashashwamedh Ghat and Phaphamau—to take a holy dip on Kartik Purnima, considered a highly auspicious day for spiritual purification.
After bathing, worshippers made offerings and lit lamps, seeking blessings for family well-being and prosperity.
Significance of Dev Deepawali
Dev Deepawali, meaning “the Diwali of the Gods”, is celebrated on Kartik Purnima, marking the victory of Lord Shiva over the
demon Tripurasura.
It is believed that on this sacred night, the gods descend to Earth to bathe in the Ganga, and devotees light lamps to welcome them.
In Prayagraj, where the sacred Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati converge, the festival holds special significance. Floating diyas in the holy rivers symbolize:
Purification of the soul
Gratitude to rivers considered divine mothers
Light of faith overcoming darkness and negativity
Offering prayers for prosperity, peace, and liberation
The sight of thousands of diyas drifting across the waters is believed to carry devotees’ prayers to the heavens, making Prayagraj’s Dev Deepawali a divine spiritual spectacle.
