Prayagraj (Tharwai): In a deeply troubling incident highlighting the vulnerability of minors and the societal menace of false promises, a youth has been arrested for deceiving a teenage girl under the guise of marriage.
The accused, Surendra Yadav, reportedly lured the minor girl into a three-year-long emotional and physical relationship, assuring her repeatedly that they would marry.
According to the complaint filed at Tharwai Police Station, the teenager alleged that once she sought to formalize their relationship through marriage, Yadav abruptly ceased all communication, leaving her emotionally shattered.
The situation took a desperate turn on Friday, when the minor approached Surendra’s residence demanding he honor his commitment.
Overcome with distress, she clung to a tree branch in a suicide attempt, but vigilant villagers intervened in time, preventing a tragic outcome.
On Saturday, police officials conducted a lengthy negotiation session, commonly known as a “panchayat,” in an attempt to resolve the matter locally.
However, Surendra’s family refused to consent to the marriage, compelling authorities to take formal action. Consequently, Surendra Yadav was booked and remanded to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, the minor is undergoing a medical examination, and the case underscores the critical importance of safeguarding minors from manipulation, coercion, and emotional exploitation in a society where such incidents, sadly, remain all too common.
Experts note that cases like these reflect broader social and gender-related challenges, including the need for greater awareness, robust legal intervention, and community vigilance to protect vulnerable youth from deceit and abuse.
