Prayagraj News — The Preetamnagar Durga Puja Park in Prayagraj is all set to dazzle devotees and visitors with a magnificent replica of Vrindavan’s world-famous Banke Bihari Temple.

The grand pandal, which is being specially constructed for this year’s Durga Puja celebrations, is expected to be one of the main attractions of the city’s festive season.

A Tribute to Tradition and Devotion
Construction of the pandal began on 14 August, with the committee aiming to complete the elaborate work by 24 September.

The theme was finalized soon after the conclusion of last year’s celebrations, when the Durga Puja Committee — under the leadership of General Secretary Devashish Majumdar, President Anup Chatterjee, and Treasurer Amit Ghosh — decided that the 40th year of the Preetamnagar festival should pay homage to the spiritual grandeur of Vrindavan’s Banke Bihari Temple.

Dimensions and Design
The pandal is an engineering marvel in itself. Standing 70 feet high, with a length of 115 feet and a width of 76 feet, it is being painstakingly built by twenty skilled artisans from Kolkata who specialize in traditional puja structures.

The structural framework has already been completed, and the detailed interior decorations are now being executed by Sunil Barua and his team, who are carefully modeling the interiors to recreate the sacred aura of the original temple at Vrindavan.

Cultural and Religious Programs
The festivities promise to be as vibrant as the pandal itself. On the fifth day of Navratri (Panchami), the women’s group Mata Shaktis will host an Anand Mela (celebratory fair) and conduct special worship ceremonies at the puja site.

On the sixth day (Shashthi), a significant spiritual ritual — the pran-pratishtha (consecration ceremony) — will be performed for a towering ten-foot idol of Goddess Durga.

Adding to the grandeur, the Mata Shaktis will also organize a dramatic staging of Mahishasura Mardini, symbolizing Goddess Durga’s legendary battle and victory over the demon Mahishasura.

This performance is expected to be a highlight of the celebrations, combining devotion with theatrical artistry.

A Tradition of Creative Themes
The Preetamnagar Durga Puja is well-known for its creative and socially relevant themes. In 2023, the pandal was modeled after Chandrayaan-3, celebrating India’s lunar mission, while in 2024, the theme highlighted the Tejas fighter aircraft, showcasing India’s defense achievements.

This year, the focus has shifted towards offering devotees a spiritual experience, bringing the aura of Vrindavan to Prayagraj. The organizers say the aim is to give the public not just a spectacle, but a sense of divine presence and cultural pride.

As the countdown to Durga Puja begins, the anticipation around the Preetamnagar pandal is growing. For the people of Prayagraj, the festival promises to be a blend of devotion, artistry, and community spirit — a true celebration of faith and festivity.
