Property Dispute Turns Deadly: Youth Axes Four Family Members to Death in Bahraich Village

Basantpur Udal village (Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh):

In a chilling incident that has left an entire village in shock, a young man allegedly killed four members of his own family with an axe late Sunday night in Basantpur Udal village under the Rupaidiha police station limits of Bahraich district.

The accused, identified as Nirankar Verma, reportedly attacked his father, mother, sister and grandmother inside their home following a long-simmering dispute over property and money.

According to police officials, the violence unfolded in the dead of night when most villagers were asleep, turning what appeared to be an ordinary household into the scene of a gruesome crime.

Those killed in the attack have been identified as Badlu Ram, around 60, his wife Sanju Devi, about 56, their daughter Parvati, approximately 42, and the elderly grandmother, Sheetala Devi, believed to be around 80 years old.

All four sustained fatal injuries from repeated blows inflicted with a sharp-edged axe. They died on the spot before any medical assistance could reach them.

Investigators said tensions had been brewing within the family over the distribution of proceeds from the sale of land and jewellery.

The accused allegedly felt he had not received his rightful share, leading to frequent arguments within the household.

On Sunday night, the simmering resentment is believed to have erupted into uncontrollable violence.

The horrifying episode did not end there. When the accused’s elder brother, Gurudev Verma, attempted to intervene and save the family members, he too was attacked and seriously injured.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be stable, but critical observation continues.

A 10-year-old child in the family is said to have witnessed part of the assault, adding another layer of trauma to the tragedy.

Police officials are handling the child’s statement with sensitivity as part of the ongoing investigation.

After carrying out the attack, the accused allegedly attempted to harm himself and was later taken into custody.

He is currently under medical supervision while police proceed with formal legal action. The weapon used in the crime has been recovered from the scene.

Senior police officers reached the village soon after the incident was reported. Forensic teams examined the house, collecting evidence and documenting the sequence of events.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact chain of circumstances leading to the massacre.

The brutal killings have sent waves of grief and disbelief through Basantpur Udal and adjoining areas.

Villagers described the family as quiet and largely private, making the scale of violence all the more incomprehensible.
