Public anger over the U.S. military action in Venezuela and the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro spilled onto the streets of several American cities over the weekend, with demonstrators denouncing what they described as an illegal intervention driven by oil interests.

In Los Angeles, hundreds of protesters turned out despite steady rain. Wearing raincoats and carrying umbrellas, they held placards reading “Stop Bombing Venezuela Now” and “No Blood for Oil.”

One hand-written sign captured the mood succinctly: “No War, No Trump.”

Chants condemning military escalation echoed through the streets as organisers accused Washington of repeating the mistakes of past foreign interventions.

Similar scenes were reported in Las Vegas, where around 50 demonstrators gathered to oppose the operation, calling for diplomacy over force.

Protesters there said the arrest of a sitting foreign leader and reports of airstrikes marked a dangerous escalation with unpredictable regional consequences.

In New York, smaller but vocal rallies demanded an immediate halt to hostilities and greater transparency from the administration about the legal basis of the action.

Outside the White House, more than 100 people assembled, urging the U.S. government to return Maduro to Venezuela.

Several demonstrators described his seizure and transfer as an “abduction” rather than a lawful arrest.

One protester told reporters that the intervention reflected “American imperialism,” alleging that Washington’s real objective was control over Venezuela’s oil resources and the protection of corporate interests.

“Bombing is how they project power and maintain control,” the protester said. “That’s why we’re against it.”

Organisers say more demonstrations are being planned in the coming days as civil liberties groups and anti-war coalitions mobilise nationwide.

While the White House has yet to issue a detailed response to the protests, officials have reiterated that U.S. actions are aimed at accountability and regional stability—claims that critics on the streets strongly dispute.
