PTI Slams ‘Alarming Lawlessness’ as Imran Khan’s Sisters Allegedly Dragged, Assaulted Outside Adiala Jail
In a fresh flashpoint that underscores what the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) calls a “breakdown of democratic norms” in Pakistan, the party has accused Rawalpindi police of manhandling and violently detaining the jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sisters outside Adiala jail.
According to Pakistan’s Dawn, the women were reportedly denied their routine weekly meeting with the PTI founder, a right legally granted to prisoners.
PTI took to X to claim that Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi, and Dr. Uzma Khan had been “sitting peacefully” late Tuesday night when police allegedly swooped in.
The party further said that not only were Khan’s sisters targeted, but Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Minister Meena Khan Afridi, MNA Shahid Khattak, and several female PTI workers were also “dragged, beaten, and picked up without cause.”
“What should have been routine, court-sanctioned family visits are being weaponized as tools of intimidation and oppression,” PTI said in its statement, accusing authorities of using force to silence political dissent.
One of the videos shared by PTI shows Aleema and Uzma gathered around a visibly distressed Noreen.
Aleema can be heard recounting how police allegedly “dragged her on the road,” an incident that viewers described as both shocking and emblematic of the growing state crackdown.
In another clip, Noreen narrates her ordeal, saying she was grabbed by her hair and slammed to the ground by women police personnel. “I still don’t understand what happened.
We were just sitting there peacefully,” she said, questioning why such force was used against unarmed civilians.
The confrontation comes amid the continued imprisonment of Imran Khan, who is serving a 14-year sentence in a corruption case — one of more than 100 cases filed against him, ranging from allegations of selling state gifts to leaking classified documents.
PTI has long dismissed the charges as politically motivated attempts to eliminate Khan from the country’s political landscape.
The incident has intensified concerns over the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Pakistan, with PTI warning that the treatment meted out to the former premier’s family members reflects a “dangerous descent into unchecked lawlessness.”
