Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, reaffirmed his party’s commitment to securing reservation in private educational institutions, promising to continue the fight until the goal is achieved.
Speaking at the ‘Shiksha Nyay Samvad’ event held at the Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga, Bihar, Gandhi interacted with students and emphasized the Congress party’s stand on inclusive education and social justice.
“The Congress party firmly believes that reservation must be extended to private educational institutions across the country,” he declared. “We will continue to exert pressure on the government until this demand is fulfilled.”
Gandhi also aimed at the ruling BJP-led central government, accusing it of discriminating against marginalized communities. “This government is anti-Dalit, anti-minorities, anti-Adivasi, and against the extremely backward classes,” he alleged.
He further urged the Centre to replicate the ‘Telangana model’ by conducting a nationwide caste census, similar to the approach taken by the Telangana government.
“It’s essential that the Centre conducts a caste census following the same framework as Telangana,” Gandhi stated.
Despite not receiving official permission to interact with students at the Ambedkar Hostel, Gandhi entered the premises and addressed the gathering.
“Bihar Police tried to stop me, but they couldn’t succeed. The youth of this country are standing with me,” he said, highlighting his connection with the younger generation and their support for his cause.
The Congress party has been vocal in demanding a caste census and expanded reservation policies, particularly in education and employment, as part of its broader social justice agenda.
