Rajnath Singh and Yogi Adityanath Flag Off First Batch of BrahMos Missiles From Lucknow, Signalling Boost to India’s Defence Self-Reliance
In a historic moment for India’s defence manufacturing capabilities, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday officially flagged off the first batch of BrahMos missiles produced at the newly established BrahMos Aerospace unit in Lucknow.
The event marks a significant milestone for both the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) and India’s broader ambition to achieve self-reliance in defence production.
According to an official statement, the Sarojini Nagar facility of BrahMos Aerospace has completed the manufacturing, integration, and testing of the first batch of these supersonic missile systems.
The state-of-the-art unit, inaugurated earlier this year on May 11, 2025, is equipped with modern integration and test facilities, enabling engineers to conduct final quality checks and prepare the missiles for deployment with the Indian Armed Forces.
“This is not just a production milestone,” the Defence Ministry noted, “but a symbol of India’s growing strength in defence technology and manufacturing capabilities.
The facility in Lucknow will give fresh momentum to our efforts in the UP Defence Industrial Corridor, attracting talent, technology, and strategic investment.”
The flag-off ceremony in Lucknow was attended by several dignitaries, including Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, along with senior officials from the state and the defence sector.
The event highlighted not only the technological achievement but also the strategic vision of bringing advanced missile manufacturing closer to India’s heartland.
The BrahMos missile, renowned for its supersonic speed, precision, and versatility, is a cornerstone of India’s strategic deterrence.
With production now underway at Lucknow, the Indian Armed Forces can expect a more streamlined supply of missiles, reducing dependency on external sources and reinforcing the country’s push for defence self-reliance.
Officials said that the Lucknow facility would not only focus on BrahMos production but also serve as a hub for research, innovation, and testing of next-generation missile systems, ensuring that India remains at the forefront of cutting-edge defence technology.
With this achievement, the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor is poised to emerge as a major driver of the country’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, creating jobs, fostering skill development, and strengthening India’s position as a global defence powerhouse.
