Rajnath Singh Hints at Relaunch of Operation Sindoor, Reasserts India’s Historical Claim Over PoK

Rabat (Morocco): In a powerful address to the Indian diaspora, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s uncompromising stance on terrorism and its long-standing claim over Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Singh suggested that Operation Sindoor Part 2 or even Part 3 could be undertaken in the future if Pakistan-backed terrorism resurfaces, while confidently asserting that PoK will one day rejoin India—peacefully, through the will of its own people.

“India Will Not Hesitate to Act Again”

Reflecting on India’s earlier counter-terror operations, Singh recalled how the armed forces had destroyed terrorist hideouts 100 kilometers inside Pakistani territory, delivering a stern response to cross-border aggression.

He revealed that after the Pahalgam massacre, he convened an urgent meeting with the National Security Advisor, Defence Secretary, CDS, and the chiefs of the three armed forces. When asked whether they were prepared to execute any decision the government might take, the service chiefs answered in one voice: “Yes.”

The following day, Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gave the armed forces full freedom to act. What followed was a decisive strike against terrorist infrastructure, which Singh noted, changed the narrative of India’s counter-terrorism strategy.

“I will not disclose the number of terrorists killed because people may start celebrating,” Singh said, underlining the gravity of India’s military response while keeping focus on security rather than numbers.

Importantly, Singh emphasized that India’s targets were never chosen based on religion, but based on terrorism, making a moral distinction between India’s strategy and that of its adversaries.

PoK: A Historical Claim, A Future Reality

Addressing a question on PoK, Singh reiterated that the region is and always has been an integral part of India. He declared with confidence: PoK will one day merge with India—not through war, but because its people will themselves demand it. The day is not far when PoK will say—‘Main bhi Bharat hoon’ (I too am India).”

This statement is rooted in India’s consistent historical position:

  • At Independence in 1947, the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir legally acceded to India. But when Pakistan’s tribal militias invaded, a part of the territory fell under Pakistan’s control, becoming what is now called PoK.
  • United Nations resolutions in the late 1940s recognized Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to India, while calling for Pakistan to withdraw its forces—a condition that was never fulfilled.
  • Since then, India has maintained that PoK is an illegally occupied territory and integral to the Indian Union.

In recent years, discontent inside PoK has grown. Reports of poor governance, lack of development, and human rights violations under Pakistani administration have sparked increasing calls for freedom and even integration with India.

Singh pointed to these developments as signs that India’s claim is not just constitutional but also increasingly echoed by the people of PoK themselves.

India’s Strategy: Peace With Strength

Rajnath Singh’s remarks also carried a broader diplomatic message. He stressed that India does not seek conflict but will not hesitate to retaliate when attacked. This doctrine of “peace with strength” has become a cornerstone of India’s national security policy.

By highlighting India’s ability to strike at terror infrastructure, while also reaffirming that PoK’s integration will be achieved without war, Singh balanced assertiveness with restraint—sending a message both to Pakistan and the international community.

A Message to Indians Worldwide

Speaking to the diaspora in Morocco, Singh’s address was also intended to reassure Indians abroad about their homeland’s security and territorial integrity. His confident assertion that PoK will eventually say, “I too am India,” echoed the government’s firm stance that national unity and security remain non-negotiable.

Rajnath Singh’s speech intertwined the military preparedness against terrorism with the historical and political legitimacy of India’s claim over PoK. It reinforced India’s position that while it seeks peace, it is prepared for decisive action when provoked—and that the dream of PoK reuniting with India is not just a political aspiration, but a reality waiting to unfold.
