Real Estate Tycoon C J Roy Found Dead in Bengaluru Office Amid Income Tax Visit, Raising Questions Over Mounting Pressure

Bengaluru was shaken on Friday by the tragic death of Confident Group Chairman Roy Chiriankandath Joseph, widely known as C J Roy, who allegedly took his own life at his Langford Road office.

The incident reportedly occurred while officials from the Income Tax Department were present at his office premises, adding a serious and sensitive dimension to the unfolding tragedy.

According to sources, the incident took place in the afternoon inside Roy’s office-cum-bungalow. A senior police officer confirmed that Roy allegedly used a pistol that was in his possession.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital and later shifted to Narayana Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

While investigations are ongoing, the presence of Income Tax officials at the time of the incident has sparked speculation about possible pressure linked to financial scrutiny.

Though no official statement has confirmed the exact reason behind the drastic step, those close to the developments suggest that the situation may have caused extreme mental distress.

C J Roy was a well-known figure in India’s real estate sector, particularly in Kerala and Bengaluru.

He headed Confident Group, one of Kerala’s leading real estate companies with projects spread across India, the UAE, and the United States.

What made Roy stand apart in the industry was his claim of running a “zero-debt” business, executing large projects without taking bank loans.

The Confident Group’s official website highlights the company’s rapid growth and achievements. It describes the firm as a 19-year-old conglomerate with 159 completed real estate projects across Bengaluru, Kerala, and Dubai.

The company also proudly states that none of its projects were ever stalled due to legal, financial, or government-related issues, and that several developments had received CRISIL 7-star ratings.

Roy often emphasized trust and transparency in real estate, noting that all projects had legally verified land titles and passed strict scrutiny by banks and legal experts.

Beyond real estate, Roy was also active in the film industry. He produced several high-profile Malayalam films, often stepping in to rescue projects facing financial trouble.

His first production was the big-budget film Casanova in 2012. Later, he co-produced the Mohanlal blockbuster Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea in 2021, and most recently produced Identity, starring Tovino Thomas.

Roy was also known for his lavish lifestyle, particularly his collection of luxury cars, as well as his involvement in social welfare activities.

The sudden death of such a prominent businessman has left many shocked and raised concerns about the mental pressure faced by entrepreneurs during financial investigations. Authorities are continuing their probe to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
