Resident doctors will not be able to refer patients out of their own accord. For this they will be required to have green signal from consultants.
Henceforth, they would be no delay in refering a patient from one department to another.
For the first time the ministry of health has issued directions to hospitals with regard to refering a patient from one department to another.
This has been done in order to make coordination between departments in hospitals easy.
On their part consultants have been directed to assess the referral notes.
Director General Health Dr Atul Goyal has said, there were certain discripancies that were detrimental to the health and recovery of patients in hospitals.
It has been seen that junior doctors ( first and second year) often get referrals that need high level inputs. This at times triggers clash between departments.
He has stressed upon the need of proper training to resident doctors.
