Why is there a conflict between police and lawyers in UP at district court which boils down to manhandling and even assault on each other at times?
Looking at records this happens when the police bring a person accused of injuring or assaulting a lawyer to be produced before a judge at the sessions for remand in judicial custody.
At this juncture , a group of lawyers lose their cool and this ends up in the manhandling of the accused. Mostly things turn ugly when cops present on the scene intervene to save the accused who is in their custody.
The result is a brawl in which cops and some of the lawyers sustain injuries.
This conflict can easily be averted by the law enforcers by either producing the accused at the residence of a presiding officer or getting the process of producing him through video conferencing and sending him to jail under judicial custody.
Well-informed and senior lawyers say the law provides such a facility. If so why police authorities are not alert to avert such a kind of situation?
A lawyer has his dignity. Human nature says he would react if anybody tried to make a dent in his dignity.
It’s high time that police administration ensures that no harm comes to a cop and at the same time to a lawyer.
