Secret Marriage, Deadly Jealousy: Indore Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Wife in Rented Room, Flees to Mumbai

Indore/Mumbai: A deeply disturbing crime has shaken Indore after police arrested 23-year-old Piyush Dhamnodia for allegedly murdering a young woman he had secretly married, before fleeing the city in what investigators describe as a confused and desperate bid to evade arrest.

According to police officials, the incident unfolded inside a rented accommodation where the couple had been staying.

What began as a private relationship kept hidden from family members ended in a brutal killing that has left the community stunned.

A Marriage Kept From the World

Investigators say the couple had solemnised their marriage privately without informing their families.

In recent weeks, however, the woman had reportedly been urging Dhamnodia to acknowledge the marriage publicly and initiate formal discussions with her parents.

A senior police officer said that the accused was hesitant and repeatedly avoided committing to making the relationship official in the eyes of both families.

This reluctance allegedly became a source of repeated arguments.

As tensions escalated, the relationship reportedly grew strained. Police sources claim that Dhamnodia had developed increasing insecurity and began closely monitoring the woman’s activities, particularly her phone communications.

Obsession Turns Violent

During the investigation, officers discovered that the accused had allegedly accessed the woman’s mobile phone without her knowledge, scrutinising her call logs and messages.

Authorities believe that his suspicions about her interactions with others intensified his distrust and anger.

On the day of the incident, a heated argument is said to have broken out inside the rented room. Police allege that Dhamnodia restrained the woman by tying her hands and feet before strangling her.

In a further shocking detail, investigators state that after the killing, the accused engaged in an act with the deceased that has added to the gravity of the case and sparked public outrage.

Officials describe the crime as one driven by possessiveness, jealousy and a deeply distorted sense of control. As per sources, the accused even abused the dead body and tried occult rituals to speak to her soul.

Escape to Mumbai and Breakdown

Following the alleged murder, Dhamnodia fled Indore and travelled to Mumbai, apparently attempting to disappear into the anonymity of a large city.

Police sources say he spent time moving around different areas, reportedly noting down phone numbers from employment posters in an effort to secure temporary work.

Investigators believe he was attempting to build a new identity while evading detection.

At one point, officers claim, he went to a bridge with the intention of ending his life, but ultimately did not act on those thoughts.

“He appeared conflicted and distressed but did not follow through,” an officer involved in the case said.

Using technical surveillance and coordinated inputs from local teams, police eventually traced his movements and took him into custody.

A City in Shock

The case has triggered widespread concern in Indore, with residents voicing anxiety over the growing pattern of violence rooted in possessiveness and mistrust within intimate relationships.

Legal experts note that the accused is likely to face multiple serious charges, including murder, offences related to sexual assault, and violations under cybercrime provisions about unauthorised digital access.

Forensic teams are continuing their examination of evidence, including digital data and physical findings from the crime scene, to build a comprehensive case for prosecution.

Questions That Remain

  • Why was the marriage concealed from family members?
  • Did insecurity and unchecked suspicion escalate into fatal violence?
  • Could timely counselling or intervention have prevented the tragedy?

As the investigation progresses, the case stands as a grim and sobering reminder of how secrecy, mistrust and emotional volatility can spiral into irreversible consequences.

The accused is currently in judicial custody while further legal proceedings continue.
