Shock and Outrage in Prayagraj After Brutal Murder of High Court Bar Ex-President’s Nephew, LN Singh, a freelance Journalist
Prayagraj: A wave of shock and grief swept through Prayagraj following the gruesome murder of Laxmi Narayan Singh (54), a media professional and nephew of Ashok Singh, former president of the High Court Bar Association.
The killing, which took place near Harsh Hotel in Civil Lines on Thursday night, has left the city’s legal and media communities outraged, while the motive behind the murder remains unclear even 24 hours later.
Singh was attacked with a blunt weapon, sustaining 25 severe blows to his body, according to the post-mortem report conducted by a panel of three doctors at SRN Hospital.
Eyewitnesses and family members described the murder as barbaric and calculated, underlining that it was not a random act of violence or gang-related attack, but likely driven by a personal enmity.
At the post-mortem house, a visibly distressed Ashok Singh, uncle of the deceased, warned the police to solve the case within 24 hours, cautioning that failure to do so could lead to protests.
“This is not a trivial murder but a heinous crime,” he said. “Every part of his body was struck. The narrative provided by the police so far is unsatisfactory to the family and me.”
The family has delayed taking the body for cremation, awaiting the arrival of Laxmi Narayan Singh’s elder sister, Sangeeta, who resides in Pune. The final rites are expected to take place once she reaches Prayagraj.
Police Action and Investigation
The main accused, identified as Vishal, was apprehended during a police encounter near Nehru Park on the night of the murder and sustained four gunshot injuries, currently receiving treatment at SRN Hospital.
Two other individuals, including a woman, are in police custody and are being interrogated. DCP Nagar Manish Kumar Shandilya stated that the motive, whether a minor dispute or an old feud, has yet to be established.
Laxmi Narayan Singh, also known as Pappu Singh, hailed from Kauda village, Ghazipur, and lived in Shakuntala Kunj Colony near Mundera Chungi with his wife Sarita Singh and their only son Rajnaryan Singh.
His younger brother, Amitabh Singh, works in another city. The brutal killing has left Singh’s wife and son in deep distress, with the entire family struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
The incident drew a large crowd of journalists, lawyers, and residents to the post-mortem house on Friday, reflecting the gravity of the crime.
Law enforcement, including ADCP Pushkar Verma, deployed personnel from multiple police stations to maintain order and oversee the investigation.
The murder has ignited anger and fear in Prayagraj, emphasizing the need for swift justice. Police officials have indicated that Vishal will soon be interrogated under remand, as the investigation into the killing continues.
