Sirathu MLA Pallavi Patel Outwits Police, Rides Pillion with Face Covered to Meet Murder Victims’ Families in Ajrauli village in Sirathu Kaushambi neighbouring Prayagaraj

Kaushambi (Sirathu): In a dramatic political statement against what she called “state apathy and law-and-order failure,” Sirathu MLA Dr. Pallavi Patel on Saturday defied heavy police barricading and covert surveillance to meet the grieving families of a murder victim in Ajrauli village, on the Kaushambi–Fatehpur border on the outskirts of Prayagraj.
Patel, the daughter of Apna Dal founder Dr. Sone Lal Patel and a prominent opposition face in Uttar Pradesh politics, had anticipated police attempts to block her entry into the violence-hit region.
A first-time legislator from Sirathu, she shot to political prominence in 2022 when she defeated Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, an upset that rattled the ruling establishment.
With the village under heavy police presence following last week’s brutal killing, officers from both Kaushambi and Fatehpur had erected barricades at all entry points, stationed personnel outside Patel’s residence in Kalyanpur, and kept her vehicle under surveillance.
But Patel staged a bold escape: after waiting for an hour, she left her four-wheeler behind, covered her face with a scarf, and rode pillion on a motorcycle driven by a party worker straight into Ajrauli.
Video clips shared by her supporters on social media show the MLA in disguise, weaving past police cordons to meet the victim’s family. Locals welcomed her move, accusing the state government of shielding criminals and failing to provide justice.
The murder, allegedly orchestrated by Shyamji Pandey, has left the border villages tense, sparking political outrage and widespread anger among residents.
Patel’s visit has further intensified the pressure on authorities, as she directly confronted the Fatehpur SP Rajesh Kumar over phone calls, questioning “delays, cover-ups, and systemic inaction.”
Speaking from Ajrauli, Patel accused the administration of acting as a political shield for criminals:
The state government has turned Uttar Pradesh into a haven for criminals. Justice is being throttled, and the police are busy barricading roads instead of arresting killers,” she charged.
The MLA’s daring act has now become a rallying cry for the opposition, which has slammed the Yogi Adityanath-led government for collapsing law and order and intimidating elected representatives instead of securing justice for ordinary citizens.
The police, however, maintain that the investigation is underway, with Fatehpur SP Rajesh Kumar promising “swift and strict action.” Yet Patel’s high-stakes visit has thrown a harsh spotlight on the state’s political fault lines and rising public anger over spiraling crime.
