Southeast Delhi Police Launch Major Crackdown on Organised Crime Under ‘Operation Aaghat’

Delhi: In a decisive move to curb organised crime in the city, the Southeast Delhi Police launched a large-scale operation, named ‘Operation Aaghat’, targeting criminals and habitual offenders across the district.

The initiative, rolled out on Friday, aimed not only at immediate law enforcement but also at sending a strong deterrent message to potential offenders.

The drive was spearheaded by Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) Sanjay Jain and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast District) Hemant Tiwari, with close supervision from Additional DCPs Aishwarya Sharma and Ishan Bhardwaj.

A coordinated effort involving ACPs, SHOs, and their teams focused on crime hotspots, intelligence-led raids, and enhanced patrolling.

Officials said the operation was designed to strengthen public confidence, demonstrating the police’s commitment to creating safer neighborhoods and discouraging emerging offenders.


Significant Results from Southeast Delhi

During the operation, police arrested around 70 individuals involved in various criminal activities. Notable seizures included:

  • Weapons: 14 country-made pistols, one sophisticated pistol, 24 cartridges, and 16 knives (28 arrests).
  • Illegal liquor: 6,338 quarters of liquor confiscated and 13 people arrested.
  • Narcotics: 5.9 kg of ganja, 51 gm of heroin, 54 gm of MDMA, and a motorcycle seized (nine arrests).
  • Gambling and property crime: 13 gamblers arrested with Rs 78,350 recovered; five property offenders arrested with three mobile phones and two motorcycles recovered.
  • NDPS-related arrests: Two absconding criminals apprehended under separate cases.
  • Preventive actions: 92 preventive actions under Sections 40A, 40B, 72, 126, and 170 of the BNSS.
  • Vehicle seizures: 103 vehicles confiscated under the Delhi Police Act.

DCP Tiwari described the operation as “an inevitable curse for criminals”, reinforcing the police’s commitment to eliminating organised crime in all its forms and ensuring that citizens feel secure in their communities.

The Southeast District Police appealed to residents to share information on illegal activities and actively cooperate with enforcement efforts, stating, “Together, we can build a safer and more secure community.”


Parallel Operations in Northeast Delhi

In a related crackdown, Northeast Delhi Police conducted extensive cordon-and-search operations on Friday night, targeting crime syndicates and wanted offenders across 39 locations. The operation involved over 350 personnel, including the DCP, Additional DCPs, and all ACsPs of the district.

The raids led to the arrest of five individuals: Abbas, Ishrat, Altaf, Ayaan, and Armaan, all residents of Welcome. Seizures during the operation included:

  • Firearms: Three semi-automatic pistols and two country-made guns (desi kattas), along with 20 live cartridges.
  • Electronic devices: A laptop and seven mobile phones.
  • Cash: Unaccounted cash totaling Rs 18.7 lakh.
  • FIRs: Four cases registered under the Arms Act.

Police emphasized that the operation reflects a proactive and intelligence-driven approach to dismantling criminal networks and maintaining law and order in the city.

Both Southeast and Northeast district operations highlight the strategic and coordinated approach of Delhi Police to target organised crime while ensuring public safety.

By combining raids, preventive measures, community engagement, and intelligence-based policing, the authorities aim to create a lasting deterrent against criminal activities, sending a clear message that illegal conduct will not be tolerated.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant, cooperate with local authorities, and report suspicious activities to strengthen community policing and build safer neighborhoods.
