New Delhi: Union Minister for Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw has stated that India is expected to attract investments exceeding $200 billion in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector over the next two to three years.
He also emphasized the urgent need for robust legal frameworks to address the growing threat posed by deepfake technology.
Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit-2026 on Tuesday, the Union Minister said that numerous global companies have shown significant interest in India’s AI and deep-tech ecosystem, which will greatly benefit the country.
He noted that investments are flowing into every segment of the AI ecosystem in India, ranging from infrastructure to the energy layer.
Vaishnaw announced that the government will soon launch AI Mission 2.0, with a primary focus on strengthening research, innovation, and computing infrastructure.
He highlighted that India’s strategy differs from that of other nations, stressing that technology has been democratized in the country.
The Union Minister further stated that companies such as YouTube, Meta, and Netflix must respect India’s constitutional framework and cultural sensitivities while operating in the country.
He reiterated that strong laws are essential to safeguard against the rising misuse of deepfake technology.
Deepfakes are AI-generated images and videos that appear authentic even though they are fabricated.
The government and industry are continuously engaging in dialogue to minimize digital harm and ensure the safety of society.
