Suicide Car Bomb Targets Checkpost in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; 11 Security Personnel, Child Killed
Peshawar: In a deadly attack in northwestern Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, militants belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) carried out a suicide bombing at a security checkpost on Monday.
The assault claimed the lives of 11 security personnel and a young girl.
The military, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said security forces retaliated promptly, killing 12 terrorists in the ensuing operation.
The suicide attack occurred at a Frontier Corps (FC) checkpost in Bajaur district, which borders Afghanistan. The TTP has claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attackers rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the wall of the checkpost.
The powerful blast caused the building to collapse, resulting in the deaths of 11 security personnel.
The explosion also damaged nearby residential structures, leading to the death of a minor girl and injuring seven others, including women and children.
A search operation is currently underway to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.
The agency further stated that Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue their counter-terrorism operations to eradicate the threat of foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
Three Policemen Killed in Separate Exchange of Fire
Peshawar: In a separate incident in northwestern Pakistan, at least three militants and three police personnel were killed during a search operation.
Police officials said the operation was launched on Monday in Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after TTP-linked militants opened fire on a police team.
During the operation in the Kabul Gram area, militants ambushed the police party, killing three officers on the spot.
Following the attack, police cordoned off the area and launched an immediate counter-operation, in which three militants were neutralized, while several of their accomplices managed to escape.
