Supreme Court Gives Interim Stay On The Orders Of UP, MP And Uttaranchal Govts, That Requires Display Of Names Of Owners Running Eateries On Kanwaria Routes: All Three State Govts Directed To File Reply By Friday

The Supreme Court has granted an interim stay on the orders of the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh governments which had directed all eatery owners to display their names outside their establishments on Kanwar routes in their respective regions.

With this interim order of stay, the court has also directed the three states to file their replies by Friday.

The Supreme Court’s stay will remain effective till further orders.

The Supreme Court issued the order on a PIL filed by the Association of Protection Of Civil Rights.

Arguing in favor of petitioners Abhishek Manu Singhvi pleaded, that it’s a piquant situation, “I shall be kept out in case I do not display my name and I shall be kept out even if I write my name”.On Singhvis argument, the Supreme Court asked, what do Kanwarias want? “Do they want food to be grown by a particular community, cooked and served by a particular community”.
