Long queues of patients and attendants were witnessed at these hospitals after two two-day holiday due to the festival of Janmashtami.
The Swarup Rani Hospital had the most rush of patients suffering from viral fever and other related seasonal illnesses.
Rains made things more difficult for the patient’s cand attendants.
Added to this situation was the traffic snarl from the hospital entry and exit gates to the connecting road.
The narrow road now being widened, which emulates from MG Marg and connects the SRN hospital, bears the brunt of traffic which is too heavy from 8 am to 5 pm.
The widening work of this road is too slow with heaps of building material dumped on both sides. This makes the passage of vehicles very difficult.
As a result, even serious patients on occasion are forced to sit in vehicles carrying them to the hospital. This even includes ambulances at times.
As it is government medical facilities in the city were nearly nonexistent due to eleven days of nationwide protest and strike by the doctors who are still not pacified following the brutal rape and murder of one of their colleagues at the RG Kar hospital in Kolkata.
Even when the main accused one Sanjay Roy has been arrested doctors want a complete and accurate workout of the case.
During the eleven-day strike, only the emergency functioned and doctors and nurses looked after those who had been admitted to wards before their strike began.
As a result rush at all the government-run hospitals in the city has increased.
