‘Tarnishing India’s Image Is Unacceptable’: Yogi Adityanath Slams Youth Congress Protest at AI Summit

Lucknow/New Delhi — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Youth Congress over its protest at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, calling the incident “bahut hi sharmanak” — extremely shameful.

Speaking in the state Assembly, Adityanath said the demonstration at Bharat Mandapam was a calculated attempt to embarrass India on a global stage.

“At a time when India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has established itself as a major global power, such acts are deeply unfortunate,” he said.

“When the world is watching us, attempts to create disruption damage the country’s image.”

The protest occurred during the AI Impact Summit being held at Bharat Mandapam, where a small group of Indian Youth Congress members entered an exhibition hall and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Security personnel quickly intervened and removed the protesters from the venue.

According to a senior police officer, around 10 individuals were detained during the brief disruption.

‘Politics Has a Place — Not at the Cost of the Nation’

Adityanath said dissent and political rivalry are integral to democracy, but insisted that staging protests during an international summit crossed a line.

“Politics and allegations are part of democracy,” he said. “But to play with the country’s image — especially when representatives from more than 100 countries are present — is unacceptable. Every Indian should condemn this.”

The chief minister also called for strict action against those responsible. “Anyone involved in tarnishing India’s image must face firm and stringent consequences,” he added.

India’s Global Tech Ambitions

Highlighting the significance of the summit, Adityanath noted that the AI Impact Summit, organised for the first time in India, has drawn participation from over 100 countries and more than 20 heads of state and government representatives.

He described the event as a milestone in India’s technological journey and global positioning.

“India has emerged as a leader in artificial intelligence and next-generation technologies,” he said.

Referring to the broader industrial transformation, the chief minister spoke about the shift from Industry 4.0 — driven by automation, the Internet of Things, and big data — to a more human-centric and value-based industrial framework.

“Artificial intelligence will form the backbone of the coming industrial revolution,” he said, adding that the Uttar Pradesh government has made budgetary provisions to advance AI-driven initiatives in the state.

The brief protest may have been swiftly contained, but the political fallout is likely to continue — as debates intensify over the limits of dissent during high-profile international events.
