Teen’s Tragic Death in Naini After Facebook Friendship Turns Fatal
PRAYAGRAJ: A 16-year-old boy from Kaushambi district, who had left home after befriending a girl on Facebook, was found hanging in a rented room in Naini, Prayagraj.
The shocking incident has left both his family and the local community in disbelief, with suspicions that a romantic entanglement drove the young boy to take his own life.
A Facebook Friendship That Changed Everything
The deceased, identified as Prince Maurya, was the eldest son of Ram Prasad, a well-known DJ operator from Kaushambi’s Kada Dham area.
Prince had been living in Naini for the past three months, having moved there reportedly after becoming friends with a girl through Facebook.
Despite repeated requests from his family to return home, he chose to stay back, renting a small room in Mahra Ka Purva under the Naini police station limits.
According to his relatives, Prince seemed content in Naini. He had even taken up part-time work at a local paper mill in Daud Nagar to support himself.
However, his sudden death has raised serious questions about the nature of his relationship with the girl he met online.
A Call That Sparked Concern
Three days before the tragic discovery, Prince’s family reportedly received a phone call from a girl, believed to be the same one he had befriended on Facebook.
The caller allegedly told the family that Prince often threatened to kill himself and urged them to come take him back home. Family members claimed that the girl and Prince’s parents spoke several times about his behavior and well-being.
However, the police have stated that the family did not officially inform them about any such conversation. Still, investigators confirmed that a suicide note was recovered from the room, and it mentioned a girl by name — suggesting emotional turmoil linked to a romantic betrayal.
The Grim Discovery
Prince had been staying in the rented room of Advocate Santosh Pandey in Mahra Ka Purva, Naini. On Wednesday, the landlord noticed a foul smell coming from Prince’s room.
When he peered through the window, he was horrified to see the teenager hanging from the ceiling fan.
The landlord immediately informed the police. Sub-inspector Vipin Kumar, in charge of Naini outpost, rushed to the scene along with his team.
The door was broken open in the presence of Prince’s family, who had by then been alerted and had reached the spot. Inside, police found Prince’s decomposed body, suggesting he had been dead for at least four days.
A multi-page diary and two mobile phones were recovered from the room. The diary contained disturbing entries about betrayal and emotional pain, allegedly caused by a girl.
The police are analyzing the note and examining the digital evidence from both phones to trace the person mentioned.
Family’s Allegations and Police Statement
Prince’s grieving parents — Ram Prasad and Lalita Devi — accused the girl of driving their son to suicide. “He stopped coming home after meeting her.
She trapped him emotionally,” the family claimed, insisting that the relationship had deeply disturbed the teenager.
Despite the family’s allegations, the police are proceeding cautiously. DCP Yamunanagar Vivek Chandra Yadav stated,
The boy from Kaushambi was living on rent in Naini, where he hanged himself in his room. We have recovered a diary in which he wrote about being deceived by a girl. The note is several pages long and is being examined. No formal complaint has been filed by the family yet.”
A Tragic End to a Teenage Love Story
The case has reignited concerns over the growing influence of social media on young lives and the emotional vulnerabilities of teenagers engaging in online relationships.
What began as a digital friendship turned into an emotional spiral that ended in tragedy.
As the police await the results of forensic and digital examinations, Prince’s death serves as a grim reminder of how unguarded online interactions and emotional distress can intertwine with devastating consequences.
