The vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta have sought response from the NTA within two weeks and tagged the cases with earlier petitions raising similar issues, listed on July 8.

The supreme court also issued notice on a transfer petition filed by NTA seeking to transfer to the top court a petition filed in a high court alleging paper leaks  and irregularities in the conduct of NEET- UG- 2024.

The court tagged the NTAs transfer petition along with other petitions pending before it.

Earlier NTA had told supreme  court that it has decided to cancel the grace marks of 1,563 candidates and provide them with the option to take a re-test. Those who do not wish to take re-test will have their results declared based  on their original marks secured by them from their May 5 examination, without any grace marks.

In case of others who participate in the re-test their earlier scores will be scrapped. Marks secured by them in the re-test will be considered.

Following the controversy the ministry of education formed a panel to review grace marks awarded to 1,563 aspirants.

The panel looked into allegations of inflated marks which resulted in 67 candidates sharing the first rank. This incuded six from the same centre

On its part, the supreme court has refused to stay the NEET 2024 counselling process, says it will go on.

The bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah was hearing the first petition by Shivangi Misra and nine others on in June 1, prior to results being announced.

The court hearing which  is dealing with three other petitions is still going on. The petition prays for the cancellation of the NEET 2024 test and conduct the examination again.

Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta are hearing these petitions now.

The candidates have alleged widespread irregularities including award of grace marks.

This sensitive issue has left thousands of students and their parents in shock and dismay. Earlier, even the court had observed that sanctity of examination has been compromised.

The NTA has also seen a viral video from UP in which a candidate is showing her torn OMR sheet.

The allegations such as paper leaks abd the grant of grace marks to over 1500 medical aspirants have ked to widespread protests and filing of  cases in several high courts including the Apex court of the country.

 Surprisingly, 67 students scored a perfect 720 marks, never heard in NTA history. Six students from Haryana have figured in a list, raising eyebrows.

The NEET-UG examination, it may be mentioned is conducted by NTA for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.

Menwhile, Congress and several opposition party leaders have accused the agency conducting examination of not being fair, Several leaders have alleged that it was all done for the benefit  of a chosen few who have a say in the corridors of power.
